Due to a few people asking I have decided to put together a little build thread on my sleeping platform/ drawer system that I have since sold. However, I think other could benefit from my design.

I designed this sleeping platform with my dad, we are both well versed in wood working so I wanted to build a system that was both sturdy enough for me to sleep on comfortably and easily removable for when the full bed is needed. Also this was designed to work with a shell, not recommended without a shell since it is wood.

Anyways, here it is. I used 3/4” mdf for the side pieces and top pieces and 1/2” ply (birch) for the rest. I used 3/4” pvc ripped in half for the slides for the drawer that literally sit in the bed channels. The drawer is built from the 1/2" ply and waxed the bottom to slide better on the pvc. The hardest part was making the right cuts where the bed tapers where it meets the tailgate, a jigsaw will really save you time here. The top pieces that sit over the drawer sit on a 3/4" cleat screwed to the side pieces that allows them to sit flush with the top side pieces when pushed in. I cut the top pieces to push the side pieces tight against the bedside when pushed down, which allows the drawers to slide freely with ease.

The side pieces are just two pieces with a front panel screwed to them for support and finishing off at the tailgate.

The middle piece also has two 3/4” pieces of wood as “feet” that sit perfectly on the bed grooves as well

Also used 3m Hi Strength adhesive spray and outdoor rug from home depot for the carpeting. All in all took me about 6 hours with another hand. Absolutely worth it!

    Tools you'll need:
    - 3ft Level
    - Pocket Hole Jig
    - Impact driver
    - Square drive cabinet screws
    - Circular Saw
    - Wood Glue
    - Jigsaw

    Materials:
    - (2) 8ft x 6ft 3/4" MDF Sheets
    - (3) 4ft x8 ft 1/2 Ply (birch)
    - (1) 12ft Roll Outdoor Carpeting
    - (10ft) 3/4" White PVC Pipe
    - (3) Cans of 3M Hi Strength Adhesive

Nice work, great design. I may do a single on mine. I've already got a lot going on inside the topper.
