How to: DIY Wedge Camper

I was considering that as well, but could not figure out how to mod it. Could you post some pictures, it would be super helpful.

 

You could always get some security bolts and make some small tabs with holes for a small padlock by the handle or something too

It's pretty easy. You just need to cut one bolt off and trim the plastic a bit.

 

80/20 has a locking latch. I bought one to try out. I bought the regular keep latches too but might just use two of the locking latches.

 

Thanks! Can you still use T-NUT with those? Do you know the diameter and threading of those bolts?

Was wondering where do you all get your alu-panel or aluminum from? I am getting quoted ridiculous prices around here.
The cheapest 3mm panel (5x10) I found was $230.

 

I live in colorado western slope and bought mine at a local plastics store. Here is the order list for your reference...

Order Summary:
Qty of (1) 3mm 5x10 sheet $94 each - cut per roof dxf (white color)
Qty of (2) 3mm 4x8 sheet $75 each - no cut required (black/white)
Qty of (1) 6mm 5x10 sheet $168 each - cut per floor dxf (white color)

aluminum skin is .008” thickness

40$ per cut

 

You can, that is why you have to cut one of the bolts off. You can just spin the whole thing to thread it.

Not sure what the size and threading were but they were exact fit for my tnuts.

 

Thank you for your response! I'm in northeast...About an hour north from Boston, nothin in that price range here, hehe. Will keep looking. I am building camper only, no wedge. So should be good with 5x10 and 4x5. Will see if I can find some plastic store near by.

The ones I used are from Piedmont Plastics. It helps to call the actual company and ask to where they distribute in your area. Sign shops and plastic shops have them. It took some time to call around and figure who has some. Also depending on the aluminum skin thickness, the price could be way more. Maybe those are just higher-grade panels that you are looking at.

 

I got quote for Dibond. I will contact the company that you mentioned, checked their website and they do have a branch in NH, about an hour away. That's great! ALso found another company mentioned in the forum that aren't that far either. Will sure check prices, and make a decision.

just about to mount the camper to my truck. I have 22 inches of permanent standing room with a full size length bed. Half way done sewing the tent. should be roughly 150Lbs total I havent found a good way to weigh it yet. but its all aluminum construction. And yes I know my shop is a mess.

 

My garage looked like a disaster zone. No shame there, just means you have likely been productive

 

Looks Great! What did you use for the removable floor panel?

 

Its an aluminum sub frame and alupanel same as the rest. The alupanel is strong enough as long as you dont leave moch more than 12 in unsupported. The main strength is the 1x3x1/8 wall aluminum square tubing. I (220lbs) can stand on one peice of it spanning the camper and it only deflects about 1/4 inch. once it is tied in with the aluminum panel. two spans of this with some 1x1x 1/16th tube to make the frame and it is really rigid almost no noticable diflection.

 

I'm not familiar with fusion 360 (if that's what you're using). I did mine in solidworks but all I did to make full side templates is create drawings with a 1:1 scale and 3 projected views (1 for each side) in addition to the parent view and then printed those on a plotter. I just had to create a custom sheet size so it fit on the sheet.

 

I second this! $45 and had the parts in 4 days.

 

How are you planning on bending it?
