    Much better than C. locks.

I never touch my C. locks now that I use these.

    You won't regret grabbing these.

It's a pliers wrench, I haven't ever used those in particular but every other tool I have from knipex is as good as it gets. Also they do cost a little more, but are made in germany and not made out of chinese pot metal, so theyll last a lifetime.

Get a set of Knipex Cobras ad well. They are amazing on how well they grip rounded off bolts or nuts. Your knuckles will thank you.

They have 3-4 times the grip strength of channel locks, far less likely to round off the fastener.

Already have about 5 pairs of cobras plus a couple pairs they made that were labeled as craftsman brand. I love knipex almost as much as I love sk tools

    I’ll agree with the rest.
They are indeed much better than channel locks.
I was gifted a set. If I ever loose mine, I will probably buy a set.

The whole reason I was gifted a set was because I said,
“I’m not paying that price. They can’t be that good”

    Thanks again, Dad.

I'm still not understanding why you would use these over channel locks... pardon my stupidity

The pliers in the link are pretty much an adjustable wrench, pliers hybrid. They would hold on tight enough to not round off like an crescent wrench would. Another type of pliers they make called cobras are pretty similar to channel locks but just work a good bit better.

And like others have said, once you feel the quality it makes sense why the higher price point. I’m looking forward to eventually getting the Cobras but I’m not one to spend a lot of money on tools at once.
But now that I have a taste for these, I know it’s justified.
I actually learned about these on TW in one of the tools threads!

I have not read all of the thread and I suspect there are other replies to this prior to my deciding to get my feet wet.

Bottom line: German tools are the best. Period. Bar None.

I have spent a lot of time in Europe (traveled there on motorcycles for 7 consecutive years) and came home with tools beyond compare. There is nothing I have seen in the US of A that can compare. This does not mean that there are not good tools in the US; there are. But there are better tools available elsewhere.

Contrary to popular belief the US of A does not produce the best of everything in the world.

I have been waiting for this thread to come along for a long time; I have been drooling over these very pliers for years. And, for what it is worth I have my share of Channel Locks in my tool arsenal. Thees are just so much better...

    Regards,

    Jim

Irwin makes imitations of the 8" and 10" Knipex pliers wrench with similar cam action. However, it's a lot bulkier: https://www.lowes.com/pd/IRWIN-VISE-GRIP-8-in-Pliers/1000533925 Knipex does fully exploit the German forging quality to make the jaws slimmer than chineseium competitors, very important in vehicle repair to get into tight spaces.

The only drawback to Knipex is the wrenches get rather expensive at larger sizes. The 16" version is $113: https://www.homedepot.com/p/KNIPEX-...Steel-XL-Pliers-Wrench-86-03-400-US/303698160
