November 16 about 0655, waiting on that sunshine to reach me. not as chilly feeling without the wind. about 4550 feet elevation
    IMG_0547.jpg

curiously on November 14 at about the same early hour, at an elevation of 3483ft., the Temp was 46 degrees and the breeze was 10-15 mph, and I was feeling very chilled trying to make coffee.

Right to the good stuff-that BH-55 is one of my favorites.

Had no idea but once Copper Top opens I wouldn't go to the new people at the old location. They were all wearing Shell shirts when I went and wondered about the connection. Now I know!
I've tried Holy Smoke too but it was probably later in the day and could have been a day when CT is closed.

    Now we know!

Who's run Echo Canyon from 190 all the way through Lee's Camp to 95? Looks like it might be fun.

Really Right Stuff? They have several pretty high end ball heads, from the BH-55 at the high end to the BH-25 on the smaller end. They have two or three micro ball heads as well. Plus L brackets for many different camera systems, nodal plates and tripods. Pretty much anything you need for camera/lens stabilization. They used to be down in SLO and if you wanted something, it could be shipped or picked up. I picked up my BH-55 on the way to Utah for a photography trip. Not too long ago, the Johnsons moved the company somewhere in UT.

    Pretty nice people too.

There is a section on Google maps that turns into a dashed line. I bet it gets interesting there...

Interesting is exactly what I look for. I haven't really heard it talked about much and there's a few waterfall obstacles towards the top of Echo Pass that sound like fun. I've got to keep it type 1 fun for the wife though. I can get away with a few hard obstacles if the rest of the trail is moderate. Plus I just like going further off the beaten path then most. lol

It's been a few years since I did that one. There are a couple of dry waterfalls that are interesting, but doable.

Planning a trip there in Jan... slowly working through all 214 pages of this thread - thanks for all the info in here! It's just going to be me and my wife, so as someone else here said, need to keep it to type 1 fun... I will be scouring the thread for info on trails that will be chill in my truck but that would keep the less adventurous/sedans at bay... any recommendations welcome.

Nice ball head for your weather device! (Lol)

Death Valley SUV Trails by Roger Mitchell is a great book that breaks down a bunch of excursions, and includes a difficulty rating for them as well. He also talks about the history and geology of the different places.

BH55 is my fave as well. Bought several base plates and rails during the decade previous to this one. Actually use it most for this Kestral, but occasionally a camera gets placed.

Please don't be slapping crap all over the place. Be the better person. Stickers are like graffiti.

I was referring to the Kestrel but it applies to the RRS too. Many options, all of which are spendy.

    IMG_0550.jpg
I think this is 50 caliber, headstamp had a 4 and an L, possibly there was an S. seems I remember in Digonet a mention that one of the long running mines near Homestake was down one year during WW2 as Military doing aircraft training in the area
