Are the rear shocks replaced with a frame replacement?

    No.

But why wouldn't you buy shocks all the way around so the tech can install them for free.

Just don't get greedy and expect them to install some exotic aftermarket shit. Keep it stock or close to stock.

They charged me over $400 for the fronts. I got the Bilstein 5100s. I put off the rears for now as I want Bilstein 5100s in the back as well. I have a buddy that will install them for free if I buy them.

This is the weird thing though:

Did they have to compress the coils? That's why they charged you for the fronts. Coil over assemblies would have been free.

I prefer if there's new shocks.

Also now is the time for a new rack and pinion, upper control arms, timing cover reseal etc.

Now that I think about it I might just have them do it while it’s in there. They started on it late yesterday so I hope it’s not too late to have them do it. I’d imagine they might be some of the last parts to go on?

In the thread on this topic, there is a list from Mother Toyota on what is covered. Shocks are not on it. I do think the rack is. I had already done my rack about 2 years before I had the frame done. Bad on me for not researching the frame rust thing before doing the steering rack replacement...

The rack is definitely not covered. The labor will probably be free though. The only major components you get free are the frame, lower control arms, alignment cams, and brake and fuel hard lines that attach to the frame. It doesn’t matter if the gas tank is about to fall out or the trailer hitch can’t tow a Harbor Freight trailer, they’re not free. The only way you get free labor on parts is if it’s a simple matter of picking up the used part or picking up the old part and putting it it on. If there’s any transfer of parts to the new component, they’re going to charge you. Example: Transferring old front springs to new shocks. Some dealers are more forgiving on customer charges than others. Some dealers try to charge for stuff that’s supposed to be free.

I was able to get ahold of them today and they are replacing the back shocks for $143.62 which are Bilstein's.
