I am looking at adding a camera to my Truck. It has the little GoPro clip already on the windshield from the factory. Question is does anyone have a suggestion as to what to use there. I am considering a GoPro or a DashCam but don't know which.

Dash cams are less likely to have your truck broken in and stolen for, they're also built for loop recording, long up times, and can be bought with a super capacitor for the extreme heats associated with being stuck in the windshield.

They're also often set up to have a 2nd rear camera input which is great feature, and gps position and speed data if you care about that sort of thing.

Dash cams are also a lot cheaper.

    I have this one:

    A129

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07DL8MS1T?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

I had a ROAV/Anker one, absolutely hated it, or rather the video quality was good but I had the touch screen buttons fail on me, the battery swell up like road kill and the mandatory app you had to download and set up a VPN with was so slow and clunky and you couldn't do anything with your phone while the video was downloading couldn't import the vids to your PC had to watch them in the app wich took ages to open, the videos were encrypted and used a non standard format, speaking of format the cam kept corrupting the SD card reformating the card and anything recorded would be lost the list goes on using it was less preferable to pulling teeth out of a dumster fire abortion.

My A129 I pull the SD card pop it in my phone or PC and boom everything is there.

Save the Go-Pro for trail riding.

Dash cam left ram ball under mirror for the go-pro when 'f-roadin'!

I have the same one, it's awesome. But mine mounts to the go pro mount with this
    https://www.shapeways.com/product/PJSDBHAWB/gopro-compatible-clip-to-rexing-dashcam-mount
Just clip it in and it goes right on the GoPro mount.

Thanks for the reply's. I was not necessarily looking for full time recording, mostly just for when I am off road. So is the GoPro the way to go if I plan to just use it for that? Did I understand that correctly?

I'm curious if there is an adaptor for the GoPro mount to just mount a cell phone there to film some wheeling trips?

If you're just going to use it to wheel, the GoPro is 100% what you want.

Thanks, I was looking at the other thread referenced and like the Garmin Mini solution. Seems simple and small. Only reason I considered the GoPro is so that I can take it in and out as needed. I also Mountain Bike and would be fun for that as well as other outdoor activities. Off Roading is new to me so I thought it might be entertaining to video some of it.

Use a GoPro, many more mounting options, well known and alot more universal. Whatever you do though, get the Black Version of 7 or up, 4k and image stabilizers are a must.
