Good ideas... Yes, I would fab the openings on the bed/cap and the cab in metal to make the boot as efficient as possible with as little likelihood of damage during flexing as possible... probably to end up with each being flat & parallel rather than shaped.

Take a look at "earthroamer pass through" they use the back window plus a cubby for the bottom. PS F350's flex like a mofo as well so would not be worried about keeping the cab and box from moving independently.....

I am sure you will be more than good. When I used to work in the uranium industry we had some logging trucks f350's with cubby pass throughs and the boxes weighed a LOT! They had huge booms and big cable winches for sending a large tool down hole so there was a ton of strain on the chassis. I never saw any of these leak all though we were working in a super dry climate. Any way you are making me wish my truck would clear a wedge camper in my garage I really like this idea!

Why not buy an FJ 60/62? It's the closest thing we got here in the states.

Update the engine and install whatever other modifications you desire.

    1. I have a 60.
    2. A DCSB modified would offer more interior space and would ride better and get better mileage.

    For reference:

Actually, this was a popular modification in the late 80s/early 90s, when nearly every mini truck was a regular cab. Back then I considered doing it to my old Mitsubishi Might Max, but never followed through on it.

You could probably find some digital archives from Mini Truckin’ magazine that showed off some of these builds; as I recall, the most popular way to seal the pass through was with a large rubber gasket.

It’ll work with a big accordion like that, but man is it gonna be an eyesore on a Tacoma. It will look like a 4x4 vacuum cleaner. I’d sell the fugger and buy a 4Runner.

Man, use that 60's series, it's nearly there. Rip out the interior, make a platform, and insulate.

A friend of mine just pulled a chinook camper off of a beat down 1978 toyota pickup. While it was in its flatbed state we talked about doing this exact thing and keeping the truck. Unfortunately circumstance conspired against us and we weren't able to keep the cab/frame but I've been thinking about doing something similar when I actually have a stable income lol.

I was thinking more of a beach/dune cruiser 4x4 rig. Maybe just a rollcage frame, a little more elaborate/protective than an 80s 4runner. Just add a rear bench seat from a wrangler or 4runner and have at it.

For troopy inspiration. Check out the manual LC200.... in turbo diesel....
