Anyone running the Genesis dual battery set (side by side).
I've heard people say that it damaged the sheet metal underneath over time do to the weight. Was thinking of running their mount with the Blue Sea ACR but not if it's going to break stuff. This is in a 2019 SR5 by the way.

We have seen a few cases like this over the past 3 years on the Tacoma. In those cases, we determined the cause came down to 2 factors. A couple guys were adamant that they used their truck heavily off-road, meaning jumping sand dunes, high speed desert driving, serious rock crawling, that sort of thing, so we think the big impacts led to the damage. The other one we determined was from improper installation of the nutserts. The nutserts were not fully compressed, which allowed the tray to vibrate while driving, and over time those small vibrations led to stress cracks in the sheet metal, and then the vibration transferred to the legs of the tray and eventually snapped off.

Regardless of the cause, we definitely do not want to have this happening, so after the first case, I redesigned the battery tray to dramatically spread out the weight of the batteries over a much wider area. I also added some stamped gussets into the bends of the legs to make those bends much stronger. I believe these improvements will eliminate this type of problem from happening again.

I’m always looking for ways to improve our products, so if any other unexpected problems come up in the future, I’ll address those and keep making it better. Your feedback helps me make better products.

I am suddenly much more interested in a dual battery kit again lol

The tearing of the fenders was common on 2nd gen Tacomas aswell, im not sure if the brackets/trays are the same or if something changed with the generations

I have the Genesis dual battery setup. I also installed a shorter Lexus oil filler neck that gives a little more clearance. It’s super tight up against the fuse box, but with a little persuading you can get the cover back on, if you take it off.

We actually took the lesson learned and applied the changes to our 4Runner / Tundra kit, and used that same new design on our new 2nd Gen Tacoma kit that just launched. The battery compartment area is very similar across all those platforms. I plan on shooting a new installation video for our revised 3rd Gen Tacoma kit soon, but in the meantime, if you would like to get an idea of what that looks like, you can see the brand new installation video for the 2nd Gen truck that I posted today -

So, im pretty sure the group 31s are larger than the factory 27fs (or the older 24s) and when you go to agm you gain even more weight.

Would there ever be an option for two 27s? (or can two 27s fit in thr current/new cage?)

Because of the increased weight and damage to the body i was going to just do one 31 up front for a while until i get my hands on a drifter/gfc/something and put the 2nd battery back there. A new tray for a single 31 battery would be awesome and probably sell pretty good lol

Rago Fab makes a Group 31 tray.

I'm back and forth on it. I honestly don't think I need a dual battery system but on the same side it would be nice just for the piece of mind.
I may just run a 34R for a while and see how it goes.

Yeah the Group 31 is a pretty large battery - about 78 pounds. We do have a universal kit that allows you to remotely mount a second battery somewhere else such as in the back of the truck. It has all the same features as our Tacoma kit, just squished down to fit on top of one Group 34 battery. I have a new video that I'll post up on youtube very soon about that. You can see more details on that kit here - https://www.genesisoffroad.com/universal-single-battery-kit
