About a year ago I had a chance to buy a 2014 4Runner that had previously been in the New York area. The underside looked similar to that. While it may just be surface rust now, over the years that will get worse and then become a problem. We elected to move on to a different, slightly more expensive, but less miles & rust, option brought in from Louisiana.

As we swapped a battery out from the rusted one to the nonrust one, I could even in the battery tie-down that we made the right choice to avoid it. Just my .02...

For what its worth, check out Adventure Motors just outside Kansas City. They specialize in Lexus and Toyota offroad rigs and would be happy to take your money for mods (sliders, lifts, bumpers, RTT, etc.). They are also very fair and transparent on pricing. They get x ($2,500 I believe) return on each vehicle they sell on top of what they paid for it and are open to show you what they paid for it.

Boonedoggle, thank for the reply. We came to the same decision on that one actually and we keep on looking. Also considering FJ Cruiser and xTerra.
