Good Morning Susan. How is work treating you? Plans to visit the Grandkids this holiday season?

Kind of chilly here this morning, in the upper 20's. Busy day for me today, guitar lesson in the AM and dentist check up in the PM. City is sucking up leaves in my neighborhood today. I am ready for them.

Good Morning all! Will today be the day I actually post something else? Who knows! I'm going to make what I expect to be the final mow (only the front really needs it), and get the plants out of the greenhouse floor so I can thin them out. Have a great day y'all!

Good morning folks. Another day of retirement. It's been to chilly with the wind so taking a walk is on the agenda for today. The missus is down in Williamsburg VA for the girls shop till you drop week and fortunately she is pretty well shopped out plus the old pottery shops are a newer much more expensive shopping experience TGFT:). Bachelorhood is good, get out of bed when I want (still up at 5:30 to 6:00 anyway but the thought is there), do my projects, and just enjoy the quiet time :). Have a good day and be safe folks.

I just deleted my Facebook and Instagram accounts. Never posted, just lurked so got out of that nonsense, and I don't like that owner of FB. Only on TW now, and mostly in here with my fellow oldsters.

I keep up with widespread and distant relatives in FB. We have a private group that we only allow family members to see. I poke around one or two car groups too but don't really post to them. Twitter -- never heard of it.

I used FB and Instagram a lot when I was with the college - a great way to reach out to folks and get messages and ideas out there. I still am connected with a lot of former students, faculty, staff, etc, but I post a lot less than I used to. They are great ways to communicate if you avoid the BS and drama.

    Oh, and good morning!!

    Mark:

I have stopped replying to those types of posts on Facebook. It does me no good at all. I cannot change anything or anyone's point of view so why try and get dragged down by the BS. I just do what I feel is good for me, my family and my community. Like this past Easter, Thanksgiving will be a time without a gathering of family at our home. We will have a planned Zoom call and the calls are not really that bad. One of the positives coming out of this pandemic, for me, is we now have a monthly cousins call to keep up with each other. On the last call my Niece in Taiwan and a 2nd cousin in Vietnam, both teachers, were on the call. We also have relatives in Scotland that join in and have a call every other month that is favorable to their time zone.

Today is give blood day for me. One of our local hospitals has a blood mobile that will be in our city today. All the blood collected stays in our expanded community and in our state.

I first started giving blood when I was in Vietnam. I was doing work up a phone pole and a Navy corpsman called out to me and asked my blood type. I answered B+ and he said come with me. I learned two valuable lessons in life that day. One, that my blood can and does help save a life and two, no matter what the color of your skin we all bleed red. Be a life saver and donate blood. It does not hurt and takes less than a half hour.

Tom - we've also found the goodness of Zoom and FaceTime - have a weekly session with my son and his family and a "happy hour" with my sister and her husband. Why it took a pandemic to figure that out is beyond me.

I used to give blood every 60 days - and then they put in the restriction for anyone who lived in Europe during the Mad Cow era and I became persona non grata. I miss being able to give - and thank you for continuing to do it!!

Good Morning folks. Looks like a great day out there.
The missus and I as well as my son and DIL will be having our Annual Thanksgiving upstate at our place. It is a tradition that we started 12 years ago. Only change this year is we are having ham instead of turkey for dinner  (long story short, my son works for the same company that I did and they gave all employees a Leidy's 17 lb semi boneless ham or a 22 lb. turkey for Christmas) So we have my ham for Christmas eve and we are having his this year for thanksgiving. We do a little black Friday shopping up there because the major stores aren't as crowded as down home. Don't need much this year so a more relaxing weekend.
I "whats app" a few friends to keep up with how they are doing, but that's it for me. My wife face chats with our Grand daughter in North Carolina and friends in Australia. Technology can be a wonderful thing:thumbsup:.
Have a great day and a good weekend.

Good Morning Porch and all those upon it!
I guess we're confessing social media, so it's three or four TW threads, and FB for some old friends and a couple groups. And it's good that groups grow, but my greenhouse group jumped from less than 200 to over a 1000 after I joined - it's less intimate, but they are all nice folks and it follows a TW like rules format. Our Toyota group is on FB too, and now more active than the TW side. And it's far less entertaining than the TW - only a few members do both. I used to do my truck and around the house "albums" on FB, but I guess there is nothing to argue about, and they only get one like, so why bother (actually, just so I get all the photos in one place!).
We'll be here for Thanksgiving, and son who is with us lost Wednesday off, so turkey in the smoker on Thursday it is. We like to go visit my sister in Michigan, but that's out for sure. We'll yak on the phone or online - it's always been Grand Central Station at their house and a lot of fun. Be interesting to see who makes it. Even if it's just family, that's still a couple dozen!
Got all the ground plants back out of the greenhouse yesterday, and they get their winter haircuts today. Getting rid of 5 to truck friends, so more room for me. Going to put the fish back up on the poles (I'll do a pic), they actually broke off the metal parts I use to keep them up and tangle free. Sun is starting to burn off the fog, so a little more coffee, and off we go!
    Have a great weekend y'all.

Evening all! All done giving the Hibiscus their haircuts - Carol did it so it looks as nice as possible! I'm a little quicker with the cutters! So, what does that look like? The kept part anyway? They got separated by plant this year!

Then, they all get scraped and dipped in powdered root stimulator, and stuck into the small pots for next year. And this year, they ALL have labels!

Still going to be a tight fit in the greenhouse!

evening Ken  Hope pup doesn't need the plate out. Girls are good. Thanks to modern medicine, Annie still hanging in there.... 2 gabapentin and 1/2 100 mg deramax a day, plus 3 joint supplement chews and she does fairly well for a 14 y + 11 mo old (on the 22nd) pup. Zoie still her same lazy self!!! So far so good - DIL's co workers all tested positive day before yesterday. One quick and one slower test and she's still negative. But, it screwed up Thanksgiving :pout: - can't even go up for the day  Sorry, but don't get to see them very often anyway, but now some of those days are gone.

    o_O

Used to give, too.... until \/

 evening boys Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy

    Ah! The Fish! Forgive me.
    What'sa matter bunkie?
Wife wants decorative wind socks, but you've spent every previous attempt untangling them after only a day in the wind?
Or the only place you can hang them never sees any wind?
Well, you can SOLVE this problem with the never patented, easy to use Crazy system!
    That's right, and you probably have everything you need right there at home, except maybe the Lobster Clamps (Amazon);

    WindSockAssembly.jpg

Then, they can FLY in the wind all season long. The clamps prevent any twisting from catching anything, the "choke" tie and coffee lid prevent anything from going up over and catching on the top of the pole, and the nylon lets is change directions without any fight!

    20201120_121840.jpg

Long ago, this started with a windsock on an old fishing pole....years later.....

    I'll let myself out! :rimshot:

It's the AcuRite 5 in One. In the bargain world, they seem to work best. I had some Davis low dollar stuff long ago, and didn't like it. But, I didn't have a old Purple Martin pole to mount it on either. I like the AcuRite because I have the remote next to me in the sun room, one in the hall, and one in the bath room!
