I'm being silly more than anything. Plus the $12-15k for a new septic system isn't being very nice to my fleet maintenance/upgrades.

Yeah I would never give a high schooler a mini van. I know all too well what is possible with a little extra cargo area.. :spy:

I'm on 12-5 Sunday. Crappy weather, I get a comp day out of it, and I have a bunch of stuff to catch up on. Yee Haw! Hoping to bank enough comp days and vacation time to take 2 weeks in the summer for another road trip.

    That would be nice!

My GF and I were looking at taking the Amtrak Autotrain from VA down to FL, driving around, hitting GA, and then Autotrain back. It's cheap for 2 people in coach, plus no rental car fees, and no planes!

Who knows if we can actually do it with all the restrictions and inevitable shutdown, but you know... It's something to look forward to at some point this winter.

I am off between xmas and new years, and then the weekend following too. So I am looking at the 26th-3rd maybe doing a quick shot road trip down to Florida or somewhere warm. Unfortunately that would mean missing NYE at home w/ wife (she's not a road trip/sleep in the truck kind of person). There's also a chance I basically long haul it down there the 26th, kip up around the 27-29, enjoy the beach/sand/weather with the dog, and then skeedaddle back home on the 30th. Basically a quick shot of warmth and sun for a couple days. And testing a new road trip setup in the truck. We'll see what happens.

I'd hate going on a trip by myself. Hell, I hate leaving her home for a day of wheeling! Then again, she reassures me by telling me that she's gonna be featured on an episode of The First 48 if I don't get out of her hair

Oh, come on, at least something in the Huffy spectrum! Or, even slower, an old 3 banger geo metro!
I had a standard cab ranger, limited seating area doesn’t stop anything from happening...

I bring the dog. The trip in July was a combination adventure and getting out of her hair. She was in school and I had two weeks off work (mandatory). So all I would have done is sit in the back yard and drink beer all day. She would have sat there at home doing school work in beautiful weather....watching me enjoy the weather with the doggo all day long. I would have been ded. She's off during that holiday stretch though, so it's TBD what happens. Then next summer she'll be in school again/get out of her hair, again. Might go out to Colorado and see some friends I haven't in a while + buddy just moved out there. OR there's also this:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/big-texan-tw-pilgrimage.694857/

If that pans out I might tag that in, and go to Texas in the summer again or October who knows. I loved Texas in the summer though. Also might nix that plan and go up into Michigan and through the UP and into Wisconsin and back around, down into TN and WV on the way back. I have big plans.

    Jeep, Grand Cherokee.

I had a buddy with a manual mini van and we would trash the shit out of that thing. I think it was one of the old toyotas that looked like a rocket ship, just basically a pill on wheels.

I'm sure he hooked up with some chicks in it, but we mostly used it to cram 10 of us in there, and go get fucked up and cause some trouble. :anonymous:

I have wanted to take a long road trip! Obviously the rona isn't making things easy.

When this thing started, I was jealous that she got to spend the day working from home with the puppies. Now she works from home every other week, and the dogs drive her INSANE, but now when we go to leave for the day, they practically have separation anxiety!

I always wanted to take some time and drive around the country. I have the time--I think I have 7 weeks of vacation sitting right now, but actually using more than a week or two at once at once isn't realistic.

I'm waiting until I retire, or maybe at least our business is mature enough that I feel comfortable to take the wife and I away from it for a month. But I want a small rv and a fun little hatch to tow behind and just cruise. Mostly want to see the west coast parks, maybe cruise up to lake louise....

I worry about separation anxiety with my dog. I adopted her in July thinking it'd be a great time since I've been working from home. Now that's all she knows, and I'm still projected to be at home until summer of next year. When I finally go back she's in for a surprise.

It was kind of spur of the moment. I knew I had two weeks back to back. I was planning originally maybe go up to Maine for a day or two, then I decided let's see something different, day trip to Niagara Falls would be cool. Then from there "How close is Nashville...."

Original plan was Texas in the summer. I don't want to move there to get the winters outside if you can't get the summers outside from the heat, so I wanted to experience Texas summer. Spoiler, LOVED it. So, from Nashville "How close is Austin..." it all kind of compounded from getting out of the house to Maine for a couple days :D

It was actually a blessing in disguise with 'rona. Going through Grand Rapids, Indy, etc I wasn't tempted to stop and check out a bunch of stuff and bars and restaurants, since...I couldn't....so it was all driving. Now that I've done it, and have plans for setting up the truck for camping/adventuring anyway, now I want to do it again :D

Problem is from New England, I've been to everywhere within a day, most places within 2 since we're in the corner. So, it takes a while to get somewhere "new" now. I can probably pull of two weeks back to back, 3 if I bring my computer with me and can do some work stuff here and there.

I'll put together a map of my last trip and then my future plans. It includes plans of when we move to Austin too.

    I was extremely lucky.

    - two weeks was mandatory unpaid leave, so I didn't have an option, and within that, I wasn't allowed to read emails or do anything for work, SO it was nice
    - Wife was tied up with school work stuff regardless, so got out of her hair
    - Weather was perfect until the last day. Sunny and 80-95 the entire time.

Part of it too was when I retire ain't no damn way I'm going to want to sleep in the back seat of the truck. Original plan was to sleep in the bed, but that didn't work out well so I slept in the back seat. New plan is going to be way more comfortable though.

I have some teacher friends who took the summer and drove through just about every state.

The girlfriend has summers off, but summer is especially busy for me, so I couldn't do it.

I almost have to deal with work stuff when I'm not there. People can deal with some bits and pieces of what I do, but there are some things that no one else knows, so things inevitably pile up otherwise. It'd be nice to fix that, but lately there hasn't been enough time to actually show anyone anything.
