Hey guys, I have a problem with my interior lights not turning on when I open any door for my 2017 Tacoma TRD. I made a big mistake and left my moonroof open and tailgate window open last week and it rained hard. Sensors work, as the “door open” notification comes on beside the speedometer. All lights and electronics work, but I have to turn the lights on manually, whereas they used to turn on when a door was opened. Took down overhead console a few days after the incident and everything looked fine, but head liner was damp when I discovered that I left the windows open. The morning of, and following days, I tried my best to mediate the situation, heater on for hours and manually drying off. Mildew smell came, and I just cleaned my carpets and got rid of the smell. Now only thing that I have to fix now is the lights. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should look for first, as far as diagnosing goes? Is there a specific fuse to turn lights on when a door opens?

Does the switch next to the light to set on/off/auto work? Ie will they turn on with that switch? If not I’d pull that switch and check for water in it or use a multimeter on it and check for continuity.

Yes, all switches and buttons work. Only problem is that they don’t come on automatically anymore. I included a picture of the overhead module, just for commenters reference..

All door jam buttons work too. So there’s continuity there...I’ll try that Ronzio. Thanks

Short the switch in the auto setting, and see if they work. That’s assuming the light comes on when you put it in the on mode using that switch.

All buttons, don’t affect the automaticity of the lights. Lights don’t come on when on “auto” option. Only come on if I push lights on manually, or if I toggle the three way clicker to the “light bulb” side. Rear dome lights don’t come on automatically also.

In that case just fuse 23 labeled “ecu-b” 7.5amp as it controls some the remote auto functions

I’ll check out the fuse situation tomorrow when autozone opens. I’ll keep you all updated. Thanks

Which fuse of these is the one I should try? This is the fuse box under the hood.

Hey guys, I checked all ecu b fuses and fuses under steering wheel that could pertain to the dome lights. And used a multimeter tool to do a parasitic test on all fuses, looking for a drop. Still have not fixed it and found no broken fuses.

I am now considering using a needle thin attachment for my multimeter to test the pinhole sized tab for the switcher, that’s located on the underside of the actual overhead module, and see if any power is sent to the switch when in the “auto” position. This is the position on the rocker switch that is supposed to toggle power to the interior lights when a door is opened. If this doesn’t find anything, I may consider purchasing a new overhead module assembly and seeing if that does the trick, or if I can, disassemble current module and see if I see anything on the circuit board that could be a problem.

I have also came across something that is a bit weird, and would like to see if anyone has any idea as to what it is that I found. But it’s located under the plastic trim of the driver side door, and appears to be a fuse that is broken. Not sure as to what it is, but looks like an add on that a previous owner may have done. Not sure at all.

This is the fuse location. Not the red circles. But the purple fuse

If you pull fuses, you should be able to see if the fuse is bad if the little n shaped thing inside is split apart.
I blew the mpx-b fuse when changing out my interior lights to LED somehow. On my car it was the 7.5amp fuse above the Dome fuse in the interior fuse box.
