Man, do I have a deal for you! I think I have a way of doing the OEM LEDs on an SR. I need a guinea pig though. So if you get the OEMs, I am willing to give someone a set of harnesses to test. No cost, just need a report back on the function. So PM me if you end up getting a set. (By the way, I’m not just wildly guessing these will work, I have tested them as far as I can, and they’ve worked as expected)

Cool, it’s an open offer. Maybe if I stopped calling them guinea pigs... I e tested it with a panel of LED lights, but not the actual headlight yet.

Good to know. Do you have any experience with morimoto? And I was thinking I would just buy the harness they use on the upgrades models from Toyota. A lot of the OEM parts I’ve been buying are off parts.Toyota.com and a LOT cheaper than at the dealership, so I figured I would stick to them.

the morimoto xb headlights are considered the best plug and play LED option from the local lighting expert crashnburn80. which OEM harness are you referring to?

They are entirely plug and play? Or did you have to upgrade your wiring? And although I took it with a grain of salt, I was told at the dealership that I would need to upgrade my wiring harness for the LED headlights if I decided to do that

they're entirely plug and play with no upgrade to wiring. i think you do need to tap into a fuse but they give you everything you need to do that.

TRS makes a harness but it's for TRD only https://www.theretrofitsource.com/toyota-tacoma-oem-led-headlight-conversion?quantity=1

some guy on here upgraded his SR5 to the OEM LED headlights but I can't find the thread and puppypunter is the first person i've seen to offer a harness for testing. definitely no OEM option though.

That lift will be fine, you shouldn't need wheel spacers. A comparable kit to consider would be the Eibach Pro Truck Lift.

One thing to add, if you run that in the 3" range of lift, you will definitely need UCA's. Not having a front differential and drive shafts makes you lighter up there, so you'll definitely be close to that.

FYI, you don't need to lift the truck to fit those tires. Stock suspension SR, stock wheels and BFG KO2s in 265/75/16:

Yeah, the SR/SR5 use the same circuit for turn and DRL. Because of this, you need to get creative. Since the TRD models have separate DRL and Turn, they can be easily adapted to the OEM LED's. Doing it with the SR/SR5 though is definitely more involved. The best solution I have come up with is integrating a DRL controller into the mix. There are ways around this, but they are kind of pain (tapping back to the stalk switch, tapping rear turn signals, that kind of thing). The harness I made is plug-and-play, much the same as the harnesses being sold for the TRD's is, it just has some added hardware between the plugs.

are you going the module route like depo? i had those mock trd pro headlights and my biggest problem with those was that there was a >2 second delay from when you used your blinkers to when they would flash on the headlights. i'm guessing the module had something to do with that.

the headlights i have now have the turn signals on as DRL's (like normal) then to get the white DRL's you have to switch to the parking lights on the stalk so both the amber and the white DRL's are on at the same time. there's no lag for the turn signals though so an improvement on the depo's.

Going to incorporate the HDRL controller from VLEDs.

Edit: They do not have a delay from when you first turn on the signal. When you are done turning though, and the turn signal is turned off, it does take a second or two to go back to white. They would act the same as switchbacks as far as color and function. Like I said, there are ways around that, tying them into the parking lights can be one option. Tapping the rear signals and the stalk signal for DRL is the only way I can see as far as how to do without a controller and still have the stalk switch function correctly. But That is a pretty complicated route. Doable, and if you don't mind complicated, I could talk you through it. But my intent is to come up with a lot more simple approach that people can DIY.
