So I need replacement suggestions. I'm looking at the RCI because stout and integrated hitch. Aside from raising the hitch it doesn't look like it will provide much more departure angle but I'm not sure any do aside from the high clearance fender cut types.

Also, I wonder how stout if I snag a rock on the way out like I did with the stock one. What are you're experiences beating on good quality rear bumpers? And do the types actually give better departure angle?

Do you actually need a higher departure angle, or do you like the looks? I got the almost identical Body Armor rear bumper precisely because it doesn't have an integrated hitch - if I ever want to increase departure angle badly enough, I can remove the hitch. As for damage, most of these are 3/16" steel and will take a pretty good whack with no damage. However, a tree is going to bend it U-shaped, and the whole thing will have to be replaced rather than some plastic you can pop off and pop back on. It's a darned if you do/don't thing. Mine feels solid as a rock and I got it to minimize rear end collision damage and to have pull points for recovery. If I was really worried about departure angle I would get a thin, high bumper and cut the sheet metal. But then if I did that sort of driving I wouldn't use a Taco.

I like to whip my rig down any interesting trail at a whim whis is why I run 10ply tires. I didn't really think clearance was an issue until it is thus the need to replace the bumper. Just want to choose one that will hold up to the mild abuse I'll send it's way.

Right - well I feel a lot safer with it back there. Usually the corners take the hit before dead-center going over obstacles, so the nice rounded steel bosses there will do a good job in most instances. Don't forget tailpipe and spare tire - they're going to get whacked first.
