Black mat is great, I’ve never seen the engine bay without splash guards installed, wondered how much light this might let in.
Forgot about the whole yellowing aspect, as it is heated and cools and is exposed to the weather, you’re correct, it’ll start looking quite beat to hell. :)

i think it's just something they figure might work out or not. IMO I wouldn't use it as i do need to take into consideration of it being cold and it cracking. I also am not 100% sure if it's resilient enough to rocks and water beating down on it as it's meant to be used as a table cloth...

I'd just install an LED light on the underside of the hood if you're worried about not enough light shining in.

Yes exactly, lights are the way to go lol
But it doesn't matter how many lights you have, a headlamp is key haha

Regardless, thank you everyone for all the work you've done on this. This looks like a cheap and easy practical mod!

What depth of clips are recommended? Sounds like 7mm clips are best?

Finally got around to cutting and installing splash guards for a 2007 2.7l Rwd, heres what it looks like. Passenger side has alot less holes to clip into

Just curious, thoughts on if the 1/8th thick mat would work well as mudflats too? Thinking of getting the 10’ roll and doing the splash guards and mudflaps.
If anyone bought that roll, how stiff is it?

I looked again and the roll is only 3” wide.

because not everyone has access. I don't want to restrict the template to just "use this thing" and call it a day since no one is for certain that that roll is the perfect material to use.

the materials come and go in terms of availability as well ordering from amazoom for some may be difficult (or just outright refuse to use) so having alternatives from different locations is always a plus. to also add; some need something a little thicker than others as they don't want a 2mm material like the OEM panel was.

having multiple options is always a good thing! thanks for sharing

You guys rock! Thanks for putting in all the time and sharing your efforts with the rest of us mortals. Ordering a pre-made set from the States was going to be both expensive and a long wait. My OEM splash guards were hanging by a thread so this came across my searches with impeccable timing.

    INSTALL NOTES:

I snapped some photos of the materials that I used to aid others with installation. I fit two templates on one $14 matt from Home Depot (Canada) and bought individual packs of Christmas Tree clips from the local auto parts supplier in pinch because the big bag of Amazon clips that I ordered weren't going to cut it. More expensive, but hey, they ain't going anywhere. In fact, I had to tap them in with a rubber mallet, so they'll be destryoyed if they ever have to come out. Drilling the rubber was my intial plan but obviously that was a stupid idea. I ended up using a leather belt bunch to make the initial hole, then ran a coarse round file through it a few times to enlarge/stretch it so that the clip could fit through (a 3/8 hole punch would be the cat's meow). Most of my sharpie marked holes were out a bit when I test fit on the truck, so I simply made the holes on the fly. I highly suggest test fitting first before you end up with a bunch of random holes!
