Guys, WD-40 displaces water. Water displacement 40.

as a temporary spray on protectant it works really well. I use it on my truck and I drive snow plows for DOT in the Midwest. I'm pretty much required to drive through wet salt to get to work. And then cover my truck and slush on the way home. I've had it for several years and I off road the piss out of it in the summer. Very little rust anywhere.

That being said, for real corrosion protection use wool wax or fluid film. The issue with WD-40 is it needs to be reapplied pretty regularly. The good stuff stays on throughout a whole year.

OP - bust out the flap discs or sandblasters and clear that rust and then weld some plates across it. or if you have to cut the frame and then sleeve it for added strength. The trucks are worth saving. I had a 95 Pathfinder that I neglected to take care of in terms of the frame rotting out. Body was in perfect shape, drivetrain was better than new, interior was probably 95%. When the frame cracked I couldn't do anything with the truck anymore.

None currently trying to save this truck. Runs great. Frame rust which I am treating. Working on all fluids.
Actually wd 40 was designed as a water displacement product hence ( wd) and I think 40 stands for their 40th chemical make up.

Sorry didn't see Tim's reply. But your spot on. WD 40 is not the answer just a slow shit down till I get the answer. Thanks Tim
