Cool to see (unless those numbers are made up) that 27.5 is still as big as it is then.

I wouldn't be surprised if its true. Lotta 27.5ers on the secondary market still plus all the people that don't upgrade their bike every 6 minutes like @backcountryj

I'll second that the Chesters did not go well with my 5010's. Switched over to an old VPP pair of pedals I had laying around and it was night and day.

I like to think of it as me keeping the bike industry afloat single handedly :tinfoilhat:

I don't know what suspension you have. However, just setting it up with the manufacturer's or bike co's recommended settings can make a world of difference! Documents like Specialized's "Suspension Calculator" or Fox's "Suspension Set-Up Guide" offer basic info to get you the best ride possible. Even if you don't understand what low & high speed compression does, tuning it to fit you is a great thing...even if it's just at the recommended settings for your weight and/or PSI in the suspension.

If you want to supply some basic info on your bike, suspension type and psi in your fork & shock I'd be happy to walk you through it.

Input from the pros. Worth it to do this to my 26" or hunt for about a ~1k 27.5

    Current: 26" Motobecane Fantom https://www.motobecane.com/26/ftp.html

    Mod List:
    - Wide Bars (50)
    - 1 By (50-75?)
    - (maybe if it makes sense) dropper post (100)
    - Tubeless conversion (~50)
    - Saddle (~50)
    - Grips (~50)
Total est: 400 or so, could probably sell it for 400.

    Already done:
    - Pedals
    - Brakes (Shimano, F avids, hated bleeding those sons of #$&%#)

If I get a 27.5 (HT) I would still want to do grips (I like green), but likely everything else will already be on there. Just curious on some thoughts.

Reserve wheels are pricey af but they are super light and strong. Best thing is that it's full lifetime warranty thru Santa Cruz.

    FYI, from the SC site:
The warranty will be in effect for the lifetime of the original registered owner.

    It is not transferrable.

I don't know what kind of trails you ride, but IMO sell it and get something with modern geometry. That head angle is crazy steep. I wouldn't limit yourself to just 27.5 either.

This is kind of where I'm at. I can get parts for it still, but all the new stuff is harder to come by for 26.

I am not limiting to 27.5 but that's my most likely sweet spot. I don't want a trail dozer, I've ridden BMX bikes for about 15 years now, so I'm used to the tight, compact geometry and tend toward spinning and quick, twitchy movements. Usually a narrower bar than others run (on MTB) because of that. I don't mind going fast but I tend more toward techy stuff, so the smaller wheels and tighter geometry is most likely where I'll be happier. I'll ride a few bikes from the LBS before I buy anything permanent though. Likely to stick to HT, I like the simplicity of it and don't ride hard enough to need full squishy.

I held on to my 26" bike for far too long and that was several years ago. Any newer bike will improve your riding tremendously. I understand holding on to the old bike, but it's really an easy decision.
