I thought they were more responsive for sure. But I was running 2.6" WTB Trail Bosses front and rear so they were heavy af and knobby. So hard to tell if the tire size was the cause.

That's what I love about my LBS. They have a rental program that allows you to apply apply all of your fee toward the purchase of a bike. So you could try out three or four and not buy anything and that's still better than an expensive bike you hate. And if you do buy something, there's a good chance you'll be a lot happier.

True statement...I've stuck with the platform I have because it works. At some point it's the "sunk cost" argument, lol.
At the beginning of this season I thought about buying new, but everything "equivalent" is 6k plus.
I ended up upgrading to xtr 1x12, new fork, new brakes, and still came in way less than new. I'm running a 12 yo all mountain that comes in at 31 pounds...not bad I think
Having said all that, who's in the NE area now that the season's over :/

That Sentinal is sick. I'm thinking of upgrading to the new Patrol this Spring.

I've had a Giant Boulder SE for more than 12 years and I love it; However, I kind of stopped riding it regularly after I got my driver's license in 2011. My bike DOES NOT Have disc brakes; I was told when I picked it out that disc brakes were overrated. My last bike (Mongoose, I think) did have a front disc brake, but I didn't notice much of a difference in braking performance...

    What do you guys think?

are you asking if disc brakes are better than rim brakes??

if so, the answer is an absolute, unequivocal "Yes."

I don't think there is anybody out there these days that thinks otherwise.

So, sell the Giant and buy one with disc brakes? The Giant is in excellent condition and likely just needs new tubes.

I don't want something ridiculously expensive though; What's an affordable but quality brand?
