I know it's been awhile since I was last in the forum but finally got around to installing the switch. I bought a "normal closed" switch from Amazon. Tapped into the 2 lights and the reverse light. So when power is supplied to the switch via back up light, the switch opens and cuts power to the 2 license plate lights. Since I was under the truck, I also installed a 6" LED bar light under the bumper with the back up light. HUGE difference without the glare from the license plates lights. I can take some picks if anyone is interested.

That is a really good solution. Nice work!

Can you post the details on parts used and wiring instructions? My camera is essentially useless at night and looking for a solution.

Give me a week, and I will post a plug-and-play solution. Something @caribe makaira and @daveeasa cooked up.

I feel like something is wrong with your camera. Lens moisture on the inside maybe? This is what mine looks like, and I also have LED license plate lights.

@Puppypunter gets the W on this one. Well done sir.

Granted the MESO total tail bulbs help a lot by illuminating the road behind the tailgate.

Any more of an update on a fix for this? I have a glare from the VLEDs I just installed. Turning my headlights off is the only temporary fix..

    Couple of thoughts.....

You could wire the plate lights to a Normally Closed relay, then have the reverse lights shift the relay to Open. This would shut off the license plate LED when you are in reverse.

    Or a simple solution.

Turn your head around to look. Best camera you have is your eyes.

Option #1 does not eliminate the possibility of option 2 :)

^^ See link for deets on the harness.

I think OP needed to clean the lens on the camera.

I am actually running these and I have no issue. Will post photo later:

I went "guy I know who lives down the street" to solve my glare.
I used a wide Sharpie starting at the top of the lens and added a horizontal streak until I was happy with my camera view.

Take some electrical tape and cut a strip to size and place at the top of the housing to block glare reaching the camera. My tape has stayed in place for 2 years.
