Can't walk away just like that....

Did you make an offer? What was it? How rusted out is it? Did you flip it already? What'd ya get for it?

@Hobbs , did your neighbor have anything more to say?

    Looks like a fun project.

Ok. So the Bronco is a 1966. From what I've learned or at least understand. Only one owner. He paid $3500 for it brand new. Wants $3000 for it now. His neice/representative has asked me to send pics to get the price reduced. I think she may on my side on this... lol Less for her to take care of when it comes time.

I'll be out at the ranch later this weekend to take some pics and have them forwarded to him for possible price reduction.

    Other things I know.

It's been sitting for at least 3 to 5 years without being started.

It's been stored out in the open during rain and whatever else has befallen the area. Including the critters.

    A few assumptions.

It will probably cost me about $500 to get it started.

It will probably cost me around $1000 to tow it back to my house.

Hopefully the flat tires can still hold air. If not, looking at $500 to $700 for cheap tires.

I still think we will be too far apart on price. In order for me to make it worthwhile, I can't pay more than $500. So not holding my breath on this. I'm more than willing to let it sit there and rust to nothing.

I spoke with my neighbor this morning and he is very insightful regarding the older Broncos. Due to the straight six and non-power assist brakes that it is prolly a 1966 variety. I inquired about "restoring" a Bronco and here is what he said:

Factory Showroom Resto: will likely cost $40K-$50K with damn near everything available thanks to a robust aftermarket parts network. Doesn't sound like where you want to go with it Kevin.

RestoMod: my neighbor has built four of these and is working on a fifth. He says to expect to drop $12K-$15K to go through it top to bottom. This includes replacing floor panels which are prone to rust, other assorted body panels, 3"-4" lift with tires/wheels, new interior and paint, aftermarket bumpers/winch, and a bunch of small detail stuff that crops up.
He also said that the early trucks came with Dana 30 front axles, and if you plan to wheel it consider swapping to a Dana 44. I don't recall if he said the '66's come with disc brakes, but he recommends swapping if it has front drums.

I can ask him any questions you might have Kevin. Just let me know.

EDIT: neighbor also said that with a decent resto, these sell all day long at $20K+.

Hobbs, 66's did not come with disc brakes.

Classicbroncos.com is the go to place for info on these 66-77 Broncos. Lots of good info there. $3000 seems like a good deal considering the current market conditions.

Most of the older ones are 'Frankenstein' Broncos.....a mix of parts from many years.

Sorry, but the actual VIN is stamped on the frame - the metal tag in the glove box or drivers side kick panel ('66 and possibly '67) is called a warranty tag. After reading tons of threads on Classicbroncos.com, it appears to be illegal to buy/sell glove box doors with the warranty tag. If you would try to use one and someone has the correct frame with a matching title, you could be in deep doo doo.

Sold the one in my avatar pic 2 years ago for $18,500......in todays market, I could probably have gotten at least another $5,000 or more.

It went from Ohio to Alaska via a cross country family vacation with the new owner's family.

@Hobbs , that was fantastic info. I appreciate you inquiring. I'm still at the ranch and took a bunch if pics. I'll post them tomorrow when I get to better internet. I did make a lowball offer today. Mainly because I don't mind of it sits in a field and rusts away to nothing. Should hear a reply in the next 2 days or so.

My bad other info I've found out. It is a 1966. The badge on the side says it is a Sport. Single owner. Apparently he bought it new. Odometer reads just shy of 54,000 miles.

Good thing it's protected by the club. It would have totally walked off without it.
