Is this a whole-house system or one of those ductless mini-splits? Smallest whole-house system you can get in heat pump or straight A/C is 18,000 BTUs.

Smallest central A/C I’ve ever personally seen that wasn’t a mini-split was an early 2000s Trane, 12,000 BTUs (1 nominal ton); Like I said above, no company makes anything smaller than an 18,000 BTU/1.5-ton...

Residential and light commercial units (both heat pump and straight-cool A/C) come in the following sizes...

    • 1.5-ton/18,000 BTU
    • 2-ton/24,000 BTU
    • 2.5-ton/30,000 BTU
    • 3-ton/36,000 BTU
    • 3.5-ton/42,000 BTU
    • 4-ton/48,000 BTU
    • 5-ton/60,000 BTU
    5,000 BTU is a window A/C size.

I don’t know. I know we have a unit inside and outside.
The outside unit that says Heat Pump
I say it was getting stuck in both modes, but honestly at 89 degrees in the house.
All I know it the fan was blowing in Cool mode as well. I was sweating balls trying to get it to just turn off. I can’t imagine what the electric bill will be this month.

Anyways here is the unit that had the problem.
It’s fixed as of now, and I don’t want to mess with it any more.
All works fine as of now.

Based on that data sheet, I can tell you that you’ve got a 48,000 BTU (4-ton heat pump manufactured in either October 1996 or the 10th week of 1996 (which would put the manufacture date in mid-March).

It sounds like you had a hiccup with the thermostat. If you have any more issues, please keep us updated; Also, I would highly recommend that you monitor the outdoor unit closely over the next few days and see if it seems excessively frozen.

    :)
