None currently trying to save this truck. Runs great. Frame rust which I am treating. Working on all fluids.
    Hi peoples
Just purchased a 08 Tacoma 177.000 miles. Truck has been in New Hampshire whole life so dealing with some frame rust but I think I can save that. Changing fluids and engine pulleys. Was looking for input on transmission fluid. I have on hand Lucas semi-synthetic ( sure shift ). do you think this is ok or....

    Thanks

If it meets the manufacturers specs, go for it. I am an Amsoil dealer and use their products in my Taco, Jeep and Ducati, yet I am not blind to the fact that there are many great oils/lubes/etc out there that will do the job. I have much respect for Lucas products and would not hesitate to use it if it meets the requirements - I use Lucas gun oils/lubes for all my firearms and have not been disappointed.

As long as it meets WS spec shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve used Maxlife and now Amsoil Blue cap. Both work well.

Lots of guys say the maxlife is good.
I just kept WS since I do drain and fills.
I’m not big on the idea of mixing fluids.

And yet the power steering uses Automatic transmission fluid DEXRON II or III

WTF........ Couldn’t we have kept it simple?

I've run both plain jane P/S fluid in Toyota Steering systems and Dex-III(not mixed - one or the other). Same results. Local dealers tell me they use plain jane power steering fluid.
On maybe this and other Toyota forums I see people using Toyota WS in the power steering system.
Six of one - half a dozen of the other.

I never have done both a steering rack and pump together.
    Hopefully I’m never that unlucky.
So I just use what ever was in it ( the manual says to use )

Toyota recs DEXII-III because using a thinner DEX VI universal ATF type is too thin and will produce a noisey Power steering pump in colder climates, I was using the MAXLIFE(DEX VI) in my PS and it was too thin and had a very noisey pump around the 30*F temps, started using Valvoline dex/merc dino which is a real DEXIII ATF no more noise

You should have just bought a manual transmission, then you wouldn’t be facing this predicament :anonymous:
