Costco adds their own additives at each station themselves. So the gas is in fact different despite it coming from the same refinery as the station next to it.

"As the number of Costco gas stations grew, the challenge was to find an efficient way to mix the gasoline and the additives to meet Costco’s high standards. Tim says Costco decided the best system would be to blend the additives at Costco gas stations during the fuel delivery. This way, he explains, Costco could have complete control over both the process and the quality aspects of the fuel. To accomplish this, Costco worked with industry experts to design and implement a unique on-site additive system."

I try but the line gets out of hand at times. I went on Monday and the line was 10-12 cars deep at each pump and overflowing to the entrance. The joys of living in NOVA.

Not a bad idea. You should post some links if you have some handy. I have some pretty good ones if you don’t.

No way. ARCO gas is piss. My Mustang rattles like a Chevy with loose lifters every time I (out of desperation) I used ARCO.

Note that 91 octane appeared to be ok but a waste of $$ in that car due to mileage.

Top tier keeps valves and upper cylinder head cleaner than non top tier. Deposits left by non top tier gas can be partially removed by top tier gas. there is a significant effect on mpg, reliability, and power.

I use Costco gas almost exclusively. Even on road trips I'll map out the Costco's on the route that has gas pumps

I meant what brand is best and what to avoid etc. Guessing it varies by region and refineries though.

I wound up with shitty gas from a cheap no-name place a couple weeks ago, mpg computer was reading 15 etc. Now it is back to 18 with a fresh fillup.

Costco is definitely one of the cheapest but don't they have 10% ethanol. I can tell my truck isn't the same anytime I fill up with gas containing ethanol.

I currently have the older octane leaning OV tune in the ECM.

Here’s a list of gasoline brands that meet the Top Tier requirements for additives:

Not in the scope of the report. Likely too many variables.

Love their gas, hate their pumps... I am that guy that loves to be able to top off and the darn nozzles always fight it...
And before anyone tells me its bad I’ve been doing it for years and never had a problem with it...

Me too. Get that extra 1/2 gallon at that low price. LOL. Besides, you never know when that 1/2 gallon may be the fumes you are riding on to the next gas station.

Agreed! Plus I hate filling up so the longer I can delay it makes me happy.
I've gotten well over an extra gallon on almost every fill-up haha
