Has anyone had any experience with the service department at Rockwall Toyota? I took my 2009 Tacoma Prerunner there for leaf spring recall. They performed the recall work and then told me that I had a bad right rear wheel bearing. Estimated cost to replace the bearing was $1200.
I ordered the parts from local parts house and pulled the axle. Took it to machine shop to have the old bearing removed from the housing and the new bearing pressed in. Machinist said the old bearing was in perfect working condition and advised not replacing.

I think you answered your own question. They don’t call them stealerships for nothing.

No experience there, but sometimes you have to take things with a grain of salt. I had some work done on my old GMC Canyon, including mounting new tires. I had more work to be completed, but they wanted too much money so I took it elsewhere. As that second place lifted my truck off the ground, they said the driver's front tire fell down because I needed a whole new ball joint. Given the noise I had been hearing, I was surprised the first shop never caught it, especially when it was that bad.

I have spent 80k dollars with them in the last two years, I have expressed my concerns with them and I am awaiting their response. Will probably be looing for a new place to buy cars.

Haven’t dealt with their service department but their sales department is “meh” at best. I live like 5 minutes from there and stopped by when car shopping. Didn’t get the best vibe so I ended up buying from another dealership.

I’ll be in the market again in a few months so I’ll give them another shot.

Parts department guys are pretty good though, so that’s a plus.

I have had good buying experiences there with salesman named Jonathan. He is very helpful and knowledgeable, and not pushy. Just beware of the service department!

Makes you wonder if service writers are on commission.

As I understand it most of them are. I recently had a family member who got up-sold horribly for a service at a local Lexus dealership. Almost criminal the games they play.

Well, quotas and commissions invite bad fraudulent behavior. I would report such behavior to the attorney general.

Thankfully it wasn't anything that bad; they just did some up-selling of services the car didn't need. That was the deciding factor for me to put a lift in my garage so I can handle the service on that car (and make working on my stuff a bit easier too) from now on.

    Tyson - Hello and welcome.
No big deal, but do you realize you posted this in the 3rd Gen area of the TW forum?
2009 Prerunner would be a Gen 2 model.

curious...what reason did they give for suspecting it or did they? If there was no wheel hum that coulda been clue 1 to not take everything apart. But if you went in trusting them I could understand
