Can I enlarge the center bore on steel rims by 7mm?

I have a 2001 2wd 2.4l 15 inch rims. I recently purchased snow tires on 5 lug 16 inch toyota rims off a 2014 2wd 2.7l. Oem wheels, good tires, great price! What could go wrong?

I didn't realize center bore was even a thing but sure enough, even though all the other dimensions are the same, the newer rims have a 7mm smaller hole in the middle and don't fit...

I've done some research but it seems all the other people that have had this problem don't have nearly as much metal to remove and/or have alloy rims. What would be the best way to remove 3.5mm of steel around the radius of the hole while keeping it concentric?

I was thinking a hole saw with some sort of homemade arbor? I'm sure the best thing would be to take the rims to a machine shop but I don't have the time or money for that.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

You're prob. just better off to paint your old wheels and remount them.

The truck needs that area for support so 1/2 assing it is not a good idea. That said, back when I was young and wheels were lug centric we thought nothing of driving 100 mph on broken studs.

7mm is a bunch doing it at home by hand.
I'd use machine shop. Even a rotary tool is going to be a LOT of grinding x4.

Something best done by a machine shop, negating any cost savings. In a zombie apocalypse sure go for it. Otherwise back away from the keyboard and nobody will get hurt.

Does this count as a Friday thread?

There are hub concentric wheels and you are talking 1/4 of an inch +, far cheaper to sell them and get the proper wheels. Hub concentric and lug concentric makes a big difference use the proper wheels.

    Machine shop. 100%.
They would likely center on the lug holes, assuming the 3.5 mm cut doesn't intersect these holes.

Best option is to sell them on. Hunt for the correct wheel with all matching fit dimensions.
