Never liked these D rings as they were a PITA to undo after the straps get weathered and stiff. Then one of the side buckles broke and I remembered these no sew replacement fastex style buckles. So replaced the broken buckle and the D rings.

Did you have any luck building a mount like mine, or did you go a different direction?

CVT's discounts are pretty damn good...probably the best you'll find brand new aside from discontinued models or used tents

still working on it. Got all the parts. I took 1/4” flat iron bar and cut them down to 4.5 in rectangles to run as spacers. Have to double stack them to lift the extrusion high up enough off the camper shell. So 1/2” of spacers barely clears the camper shell. Maybe about 1/4 inch off the shell.

The t-slot slider I got for the Thule track felt too skinny. For me. The A squares that come with the track are 19mm. The 80/20 t-slots are like 16mm wide. So I ordered some new slider in squares for the Thule track that are M8 instead of the current M6 size. Since I’m running spacers I wanted to make sure that I’m running the strongest possible nuts and bolts.

In hindsight, I should have just ordered 1x2 extrusion and the prinsu feet.

hopefully it all works out. Pic below of how much clearance lll have.

Any thoughts/recommendations or reviews on the Smittybilt GEN2 Overlander XL? Looking around for a four person RTT. Lots of stuff is out of stock and won't the available till next year. Smittybuilt seems to have RTT's in stock. Price is competitive as well.

... I know I can’t believe it. A few years ago I got a screaming deal on a tepui through REI. $400 off a kuk 3 with free shipping.

I might go with the Smittybilt GEN2 Overlander XL...I can pick it up at 4wheelsparts store in 3-4 days after I order it. Also, their bed rack selection seems better than most online retailers. I was looking at the Tuff Stuff Alpha...the discount is not that much and its like 2-3 week delivery lead time.

One mod away from marriage counseling
Hey guys. There's is probably a thread on this already, but my crappy search skills are not finding it. I'm looking for knowledge/advice on the hardware and best practices for a ceiling mounted pully system in the garage so I can remove and store my RTT and bed rack when not in use. I've found some garage storage systems but I'm not sure that this is the right way to go. OR maybe more accurately, with out looking at a lot of options I won't know if that was the right way to go if I went that route.

Anyone got any advice or know where a thread is that has discussion about others experiences in setting this up?

    TIA!

How big and what’s the weight of your tent?
I did mine like this. It would work better with (slightly modified) a RTT and bed rack IMO

Thanks. I have a Tepui Kukenam 3 which is like 130 lbs and an RCI SB low profile rack which might be 100 lbs so it would be safe to call it 250 lbs. I can't quite tell how your set up works from the pic.

For those that have CVT tents, what size bolts are the mounting hardware for the roof rails? M8?

Here's my setup. Works really well and I pull off both the tent (Mt. Shasta) and bed rack at the same time - no problem at all as far as weight goes. Link to the hoist I used in the post.

I don't know if it comes with M8, but I'm using M8 (and the appropriate nuts) and they work just fine with the aluminum track inserts.

Appreciate it. I might pair the tent with some hardware from FSR because they have an option to secure the tent to your rack and the kit uses M8 bolts. I searched around the CVT website and couldn’t find anything like it. Just more added security for peace of mind I guess.

Here’s the link to the kit: https://gofsr.com/products/m8-security-nut-tool-kit
