If weight is a concern, Greenlane Offroad offers an AL option. Pretty much an exact copy.

As for the PC, when I ordered mine (years ago), it showed up in great shape. The bumper was well packaged and the PC looked great. It had a nice matte finish to it.

My buddy @msgs350 recently ordered an SSO bumper, and it's clear to see that SSO switched powdercoaters. The new PC is shinier than it used to be. On top of that, I think (msgs350 can confirm) it came with a few blemishes. Either poor QC or it happened in transit. Granted, this was the full stage II version, so it came on a pallet, and not in a box.

If I were to do it again, I'd order it raw and have it coated locally. That way you don't risk damage, and you can pick exactly what finish you want. Adds a step, but it's an easy one.

The weight difference vs the price difference (at least on sale) makes me want to stick with the steel even if I have to change spring rates. I was going to do that anyway with a mild lift, just might mean an intermediate step.

I think getting the PC done locally is going to be cost prohibitive, so I have to decide if I do it on the order and take my chance with shipping, or do a prep and paint like I will be doing with the skids and sliders I have on order.

Yup, confirming what @Bertw192 is saying here about my bumper, and to me, it looked like a lack of QC, and not from shipping.
SSO did refund me the PC cost of $149, but to get this fixed may cost me a bit more because it will have to be striped/prepped.
If I had to do it again, I'd order it raw and get it coated with a textured finish, as I'm not a fan of this one.

Not sure where you live, but powdercoating isn't that expensive. Plus, SSO charges you for it regardless. Might cost an extra $50 to $100, but you're ensuring a "perfect" result, vs trusting SSO's QC and shipping. I'd recommend getting some quotes, before you make your decision.

They pack it very well. If FedEx is shipping, it may get lost but probably not damaged. If it’s a freight hauler and on a pallet, there’s a better chance it gets damaged. Mainly because of how many trucks it transfers to.

Not sure if @Built2Ride buddy Z is still around, but if he is you should hit him up for the PC. Might not be the cheapest out there, but let’s just say you get what you pay for.

I saw that @Gilmorec61 recommended a place in Smyrna. I'll give them a call once things get closer for everything.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!

If I wanted to pick the version with the cheaper light to add later, would I be looking at the Heise SL2014? I know next to nothing about the last twenty years of offroad lighting.

I'm going to see how hard it is for me to reach down to where the winch would be to see if I want the cutouts, and these are the last two questions I have before ordering.

You can get almost any light the same size to fit in the cutout. Lighting is just one of those things that you get what you pay for. Cheaper lights will work fine for awhile. The Heise is the cheaper light to fit the exact cutout. Good thing is you will have 8-12wks to get a light. I'm going with No winch cutouts as it will be quite awhile before I get one and even then it will not be used very often. If you wheel a lot and might use it a lot you might consider them?

OK. I was looking at the cost of the Baja and determined those were out of my budget down the line. If pretty much any 20" single row will fit, then I have a lot of options.

I don't plan on doing a ton of offroading, but I need good front recovery points and getting a bumper that has them, and winch capability, seems like the right path. Going ahead and getting a light cutout would also be smart. I can reach the crash bar through the hood, so I think I should be able to reach the free spool lever?

So your install instructions mention using 1" wide tape but I see you have it going over the edge about 1/4". Would it be better to just use 3/4" wide tape or is your tape wider than 1"? Just want to make sure I get it right the first time. I got plenty of time to prepare as I just ordered last week.
    Thanks :hattip:

What winch are most of you using with this bumper? I know I want synthetic rope but thats about it. Never had a winch before. Thanks,

I just got my bumper delivered and I am yet to install, but looking around, the three most popular options I saw mentioned seemed to be the Smitty x20 10k, the Warn EVO 10s, and the Warn Zeon 10s. I have the Warn EVO 10s ready to go when I install right after Christmas.
