I had my Tacoma in for a recall and had them look at my bluetooth too. (Anyone I call complains my voice is muffled.) The dealership first said it's fine and they checked it with another Tacoma and said they are the same. But would not admit anything was wrong.(I called him from the truck and it clearly muffled) I asked him straight up if this a problem and he said no. But looking this up online it clearly is. Any ideas on how to proceed?

I've never heard of anyone else having this issue, but doesn't make it so.
Did you try unpairing, and re pairing, A different phone, and/or look at the mic above your head?
You can try a different dealer.
You could look for Toyota corporate number and open a case with them.

Thank you. I did find some people having this issue on this site. I'll check further.

I would try a different dealer. That said, keep in mind there a good chance next dealer will be able to see in their system, so I wouldn't lie, I'd just tell them you were not satisfied and thought they may be able to help with future service biz.
I'd still start by trying another phone on your truck, that's to be easiest way to verify it's an issue with one of the other.

Probably an app running in the background on your phone. Trying someone else's phone hooked to your Bluetooth would be the quickest test with the most results.

Also, if you're running Android you could reset your Bluetooth connections and reconnect everything.

I apparently have the same issue - I'm on the phone -for business - a lot as I drive. Unfortunately someone just recently mentioned it to me and said it's always been that way - since I bought this truck. I asked some other folks and they said it was indeed muffled they just did not want to bring it up to me. Apparently it is a truck issue as when I'm in my other vehicles the sound is not muffled. Although my truck is a 2019, I have 82K miles on it so no warranty. Considering my folks CAN hear me well enough - and most importantly what I'm hearing is NOT muffled (and I'm cheap) - I'll just continue on. I do wish someone had mentioned it earlier...perhaps I'm not as easy to talk to as I thought.

Mine has been pretty bad since I drove it off the lot in March 2019. People complain of bad echo or just very poor call quality when I call them, On my end I have trouble hearing calls. Hoping for an update or anything that will improve it without having to change the head unit. This is all compared to my wife's 2017 Santa Fe which sounds as clear as being on the phone when you call her and in the car it's crystal clear and loud.
