I'm debating if I should go w/ 255s, 285s, or 295s. I'm currently running Hankook Dynapro AT/M in 265/75 and my tires do rub at full lock. My current wheels are 16x8 with a 4 5/8 backspacing and 3.175 offset.

I've done some research on the subject, please don't assume that I have not. What my research is telling me is that my tires currently rub becasue of the 4 5/8 backspacing. Am I correct in assuming this?

I don't like wheel spacers, so at this point am trying to avoid that as an option. That being said, would a tire in 255/85 clear the frame with my current bs?

Without getting deep into the other issues with clearing a 33" tire on our trucks, which of the three (255, 285, 295) would be easiest to mount with minimal issues?

Sorry if I sound like a total noob - I am. Thanks for reading.

    255 will clear the easiest

    -But-

You may have some frame rubbins when articulating. Also, you may or may not have a little bit of inner fender to pound/trim. Both of the wider sizes will require less backspacing or spacers and probably some work to make them not rub.

From what I understand, with a factory wheel, the 255/85 is arguably the best size one can get(for a 1st gen). Your wheels are basically factory spec, minus the 8 inch width. That being said, I would stick to the 255.

Edit-Not entirely sure what to say about the offset of your wheels...hopefully a more educated individual will chime in.

    Hey man,
Thank you for replying. I didn't realize that my current wheels were close to oem in specs, I'm the 3rd owner and the truck came with these wheels.

Hopefully I can get a few more responses before I make my purcase.

I believe oem wheels are 4.5 backspacing?

I have 285/75/16 and they do rub at full crank on the frame and plastic on a bunch of places...

I cut a bunch and grinder a bunch w/ a 1.25 wheel spacer... I'm not happy about the spacer either but at least no rubbing now:bananadead:

    'Sup @snowboard704 ,
So you'r running an aftermarket 16" wheel with similar backspacing as mine? What about your offset? I see you're running 33 bfg KO2, what size exactly 285 or 295?

So they are ultra wheels 16x8. 4.5 backspacing with a -1 offset. I mainly rubbed plastic unless I was at full turn then it was slight frame.

Threw the wheel spacers on (1.25 spidertrax) an didn't run frame anymore but rubbed more on the cab area so took a flap wheel & grinder to that. (Will eventually be doing some sheet metal work in there) .

I have the 285/75/16 ko2 all terrains. Only thing I don't like about them is that they only come in load range e for that size an it's kinda overkill for the weight on our trucks but... still like them regardless. Been wheeling many times with them an no chunking etc

3" in Old Man EMU lift from toytec with 2" add a leafs in the rear to level Gibson exhaust 285/75 R16 BFG AT KO2 rims are 8" wide with no offset
I also have just installed new 16x8 ultra rims with 285/75 BFG KO2 tires and they rub on frame at full turn. Thay also rub slightly on upper control arm since I have let air pressure down to 45lbs to help smooth out ride. Truck has a 3" toytec suspension lift. Snowboard704 I was wondering what spacer you installed from spidertrax. Are they hub centric or not. Having trouble finding a sure answer which set to install. I am leaning towards the hub centric even though they are more expensive. Totally agree with you on load E rating of tire for our size truck.

I believe my rubbing issue is from new rims having the wrong back spacing. factory rims are 4.5 on 7" inch rims and when I purchased new 8" rims I should have gone with a 0 offset and 4" back spacing on the 8" rim to allow for a 11.5 inch wide tire as apposed to 10.5 inch wide old tire. The rims I wanted only came in +10 offset which puts the back spacing at 4.5 to 4.8 leaving my tires 1/2 inch from upper control arm. they only rub slightly on frame at full crank and just started rubbing on upper control arm since I lowered the air pressure.

Yea spacers are kinda a grey area as lots of people avoid them and I would have if i didn't rub on the frame. I got the spidertrax hub centric ones because it's better not to cheap out on a important peice lol

I run my tire psi at about 36 on road an have no running on uca even when it was stock. My ultras are 16x8 4.5 backspacing an -1 offset... After some cutting and grinding I don't rub anywhere:D:bananadance:

Thanks for the input on spacers. Going to call today and order. Maybe even lower air pressure in tires now that I know someone else runs that low on the road

I fit 33s on my gen 1 with a 1.5 inch body lift. And unless you wheel hard, that's all you need to do. ( with a bit of hammering). really minor
