I'm concerned with first gen fitment, seeing that there is a discrepency between 2nd and third.

They really need to get accurate measurements from your 1st gen as they have that inner lip that mounts INSIDE the bed to keep it aligned and on the truck with those small clamps. The 2nd gen bed is wildly different than the 1st with a design like this.

Also, the 1st gen bed is pretty much a rectangle whereas the 2nd and 3rd gens have a significant taper to the bedsides as you move from the middle half towards the tailgate. If the exterior is built for a 2nd/3rd gen, it is going to be overhanging your 1st gen bed quite a bit (if those inner lips even fit).

Here's photos of a commercial shell built for my 1st gen DCSB just like yours, mounted on a 2nd gen - which shows how the bedrails/bedsides are quite different:

And here it was on my 1st gen:

Funny how much better "Launch Edition" sounds, rather than "Beta".
I've been watching this space since GFC came out, and they've had no shortage of growing pains either.

Just another reminder of how hard it is to launch a new product in this market.
Brand new company and product, it just makes sense that there will be a few wrinkles to sort out.
It would be weird if there wasn't.

I wouldn't rush to cancel an order just based on what the first fitment looks like for your setup, and yeah, I WAS crapping on those clamps posted a few pages back! ;)

From my conversations with the SP guys, I would absolutely expect that they will dial in the fitments quickly, and make it right.

Looks like 3rd Gen shortbed is pretty dialed in though, so I'm psyched!!!

Always coming through with the details.
I've contacted them to let them know my concerns. Unfortunately I'm quite far from Portland, so I'd want another incentive to drive up other than making sure it fits.
I'm sure there is a local first gen they could play with to figure it out. I'm waiting on their response.

I guess it's obvious- but good news.

Got a reply from Spencer about first gen fitment.
Initially on paper, they thought that a few combos would fit, such as the 2nd and 3rd gen short beds.
Unfortunately they all have nuances, at least for this camper.
The second gen short bed camper design is currently being worked on to fix the mismatch issue. Sounds like fuselage for the 2nd gen fit issue seen, will be replaced.
First gen is being taken care of, so no need for me to panic.

Yeah, the Vagabond gets away with being the same shell by how it was designed to fit all three and just change out the rear window flap to mate up to the tailgate best. The X1 will have to have 2 or 3 different "fuselages" to match each gen. Downsides to the integrated design of it, but oh well.

Yup, always about trade offs. Big manufacturing trade off as well having a design thats bed specific.
Will make re-sale tougher as well- if that ever happens.

Yah I’m still excited but they did model it all off a 3rd gen them a Ram so a mistake that sucks but lessons learned they all are not equal but will hurt resale since less fitment per shell. But I doubt by much.
