No. The restrictor acts as delay on the vacuum bypass. With the restrictor it takes like .1 seconds for the bypass to open to allow air to go into the supercharger. With the restrictor removed it takes like .01seconds for it to open.

There is no negative to taking it out except for transitions are a little less smooth. The boost hits harder and faster. Peak boost and boost consistency is unchanged
It’s also theoretically possible the bypass diaphragm might wear out a tiny bit more quickly. Its not a very expensive part if it fails. They usually last 100+ thousand miles. I’ve never heard of one wearing out from this mod on any car.

 

thanks! I attempted to research a bit on 2nd gens. Basically just makes the supercharger even more responsive, less delay.

Also have read most around paying about $8500usd installed. Makes the $11,000cdn quote I got sound not as crazy as I first thought.

About $500 less than I paid straight from magnuson all said and done.

 

Just bought a sc, magnuson, haven’t had it installed yet. Question - what’s the model # of replacement belt to buy and have on hand in case it goes out?

EDIT: Well the discount / sale has ended - or likely the Magnuson Mothership put a halt to vendors discounting their advertised price. Wake me when a "can't be beat" sale happens. Christmas or July 4th - I don't care which or when. Until then I will enjoy vFTuner enhancements to the driving experience.

 

miss the passing power of the 5.7 on the highway. The Tacoma stock with 33s is a dog in the mountains and any time you have to pass..

 

Put on one of these and you love driving again! The trucks feels just like the V-8s I've had(2006 tundra and 2014). The power kicks in at 2500 rpm now instead of 4500. The transmission still sucks but the power is there

 

Wonder how it would run with the shift sense pro until someone comes out with a pulley upgrade and full retune for the Magnuson.

 

Can’t wait for me mine! 4.88 gears might help the tranny issue!

 

I still have the SSP installed, but never use it. I tried it a couple times when I first installed the maggie, but didn’t think it drove better with the SSP, just different. Holds gears a little longer when cruising, but that’s it. You have enough power with the maggie so you don’t feel like you’re lugging around even in lower RPM’s. Been meaning to remove the SSP, but just been lazy.

My bypass actuator was not properly mounted from the factory. I noticed it last week. It isn’t secure and moving back and forth due to broken plastic nubbies. Magnuson overnighted me a new bypass unit. It is going to be tricky trying to install and adjust with the charger mounted but I think I can go off feel and sound of the butterfly operating inside...

 

let us know how the install and adjustment goes!

 

You can see only one nubbie came correct. The whole thing moves in and out from its mount.

 

wow - looks like they took a hack job to it with the original fabrication.
