Has anyone dealt with the trail gear bolt on sliders for a second gen Tacoma? The good, the bad, and the ugly about them. I don’t off-road much but want something to help protect my rockers in the event of an accident. I drive lots of rock roads and worse case scenario I’ve slid of the road and into a ditch. I’ll include a pic of the type of ditch I went into last time.

Had a set of TG sliders welded on a few years ago. They’ve saved me in a few minor fender benders and supported half the weight of the truck on a hi-lift jack. Good luck beating the price. A few coats of rattle can bed liner n good to go.

Thanks for the input. They have a “bolt on” version now but requires a lot of drilling

I noticed a quite a few companies out there when I was looking advertising bolt-on, but needing to drill. I did not want to drill into my frame. I ended up with the Mobtown Offroad sliders which are true bolt on and no drilling. They carry a heavier price though. Good luck on your decision.

Thanks for your input too. That is one of my dilemmas. Price vs bolt on vs weld on. I’m fairly handy and could probably make some brackets to put the sliders on to bolt up directly.
I mostly wonder about the metals TG uses versus the other guys. I don’t want crap that will rust quickly

I think you'll find that they'll all rust fairly quickly if not painted. Mobtown uses thick DOM tubing which I trust, but it does rust fast. I've gone through rust removal and painting it twice. It may be worth looking at the type of tubing and thickness used.

It says .120 DOM like all the big manufacturers. I work in an industrial setting and can vouch not all steel is created equal depending on where it’s from.

I like mine and have bounced off many rocks and trees. I have the bolt on version but was too lazy to drill holes so I just welded them on. I have to repaint them pretty often where I use them as a step to get in and out.

Good info there! Thats where I seen them at. It pains me to pay $7-900 for something that’s really a wear item at the end of the day.

I ended up buying some bud built sliders last night. Direct bolt on and 0*, which will be perfect for the little ones. $525 to my door.
