I have this HF table. While it won't be my permanent long-term solution it's been really handy to have -- and since it folds up flat it doesn't need to take up space. The slots are really convenient for clamping stuff down.

You could also just set the welding table top on your existing workbench. The folded edges would provide a "standoff" from the wooden surface.

At ~$56 with coupon, IMHO it's a good starter piece that can serve as an extension / portable worktable later on when you come up with a better table for your shop.

I did not read that properly, my experience is with naked wooden tables, not ones covered with metal

    being a Devil's Advocate here.
don't discount that wooden table too quick. Sure its not ideal, but it certainly gets the job done.
these are my two tables, one is 10yrs old, the other is about 8, both have been welded on lots ( and I mean lots ). Sure they get black / scorched a bit, but that's nothing a quick hit of a sander won't fix ( if it bothered you )

and yes I've had a fire or two, but they are so small, like the size of a lighter small that you can blow them out, or they go out on their own.

    ACtC-3f0MMI-8x2j3BDf047VHD63Ma4h9aedUiup_33e9bf78b21e4fe32d1bed936c0db771de6f8e18.jpg

That large burn mark on the side you see is from my plasma cutter, I was clearly too close to the edge of the table for my cut. The above table is the 8 yr old one, and my main welding table. The one below is my OG, but it mostly used for the vice these days.

sure I would love an actual fab table with holes and stuff it in, but I just don't have the funds yet.

you do you, but I wanted to give you some food for thought.

+1 on the HF tables. I bought a couple of them in the middle of my skid plate project so I could clamp them down and prevent warping. That and the wood I had the skid plates on started smoldering pretty good and I didn't want a fire to start when I wasn't in the garage. The HF tables are not ideal but get the job done and are a huge step up from what I had before (which consisted of 2x4s on top of a plastic fold-up workbench). If and when we move to a place with a bigger shop I can set up, I'll definitely build a nice long metal table but these will work in the limited space I have now and I can fold them up when not in use.

Photo from Northern Tool website but I bet the same can be done with the HF tops...

Yes, the HF tables can be connected together on either the short or long sides. They look eerily similar to the Northern Tools tables

I'd imagine they're sourced from the same manufacturer, likely with vendor-specific packaging/customizations. Or at least the tops. Make one stamp press production line and sell tops to multiple resellers.

Well that is awesome, don't think I've seen that before or at least don't remember.
That'd be hard to fit in the garage tho.

I meant like projects ya'll plan on welding for gifts etc.

Yeah I did, that's pretty cool.

I'm glad we agree. I've been a engineering draftsman for almost 50 years. I just spent the better half of 30 minutes trying to get my coffee cup lid so it's right handed instead of left handed. I need a intervention. It may be time for the home.
