Cancelled My Extended Warranty VSA Today Due to Dealer Being Dishonest

when we bought my wife's Mazda last year we had the same experience. the whole process was bumping along good until he pulled that dick move.

 

Knowledge is power, research is key! When they asked if I wanted an extended warranty I asked if I bought the wrong vehicle, if they knew something I didn't about it's reliability. They stopped asking questions after that.

 

I might be wrong but that might come out of the dealers pocket. I know warranty work is paid by corporate. Not sure about other.

but still they’re making a nice buck either way. The techs? Not so much.

 

The techs don't make dick when they're doing warranty work or recall work for that matter. granted, if a dealership decided to treat their tax better then they could make real money while doing that work, but I have yet to see a Toyota dealership that will go out of their way to help their own people. Or a car dealership in general, not trying to rip on just Toyota here lol

 

The Toyota I go to the owner and his son have a classic large classic Toyota car/truck collection so I know they’re making dough lmao

 

Bought my Tacoma used from a Nissan dealer and got a warranty through FIDELITY WARRANTY SERVICES, INC. for $1300 for the platinum plan with $0 deductible. It covers the truck for 7 years 120000 miles from date of purchase, not from date of first use. For me that's till 10-5-2027 or 129323 miles. I realize that Toyota covers 3yr/36K but I'll defiantly go over 36K before I hit 3 years. I feel like it's an okay deal, maybe not great, but okay. The fine print never says I have to have all maintenance done at the dealer, and over the phone they say I can do my own minor maintenance like oil changes, filter changes, etc. as long as I keep the receipts. So for 93383 miles I paid $1300. I figure it comes out to less than 14 cents/mile when I figure in the 3/36 Toyota warranty. Feel free to tell me I'm getting robbed. I still have a few days to cancel.

 

I hope they try that one on my ass because I'll just tell them I plan to rip out the stereo and install my aftermarket one anyways..which I do to all my shit.

I've only bought 2 vehicles at a dealer, my Chevy in 2007 and my Toyota in 2012.

FWIW, the Chevy dealer said not word number one about buying a warranty and Toyota did. My little slice of life though

Knowing you're going to drive it a lot, that makes it much more of a valuable item for you plus the cents per mile you mentioned.

 

Extended warranties are more like repair insurance underwritten by the financing arm of Toyota. On average they aren't worth the money - Toyota has an army of analysts to make sure of it.

My experience at the Toyota dealer was the worst experience I have had at any dealer in my life. Larry H. Miller in Colorado Springs. Turned down all of their money making markups, such as the paint protection, windshield protection, etc., then they came back trying to counter with $500 floor mats added to the final bill. I lost my sh*t. Came out of it above in the end, but I should have walked out long before I signed the contract to buy. Learned my lesson.

 

Devil will be in the details:
Is the "platinum plan" bumper to bumper or major powertrain items? It would be bad if you discover your $3000 electronic brake booster isn't covered, for example.

Some 3rd-party warranty services are slow to pay, requiring either you or the shop to jump through hoops and submit a mountain of paperwork. End result is your truck could be stuck in the shop for weeks instead of a day.

 

When I purchased my 19 Tacoma the finance person brought up extended warrranty. I told her I've bought 5 Honda's( Civic's and Accord's) and 4 Tacoma's and buy them because of their reliability. I asked her if there was a reason, not to trust Toyota now. She didn't have a good answer. It was the fastest and easiest New car purchase ever.
If my 19 turns into a Lemon(which I doubt) I'll get rid of it before 3/36 warranty is up.

 

The covered list is long, looks like the not covered list contains mostly wear and tear items.

I bought one as well, i think only 60k/80k i forgot, it was $1800
In the writing you can get full refund up to the point where you start using it then its pro-rated

I only bought it since i heard the TRD pro shocks needed a rebuild after the warranty would be up, unsure if its cost saving or not

I think the finance guy was crying on the phone. He was at least whimpering. He had this great tire deal for me. I'm thinking is he going to try to sell me better tires and rims? After the whole speech about how his wife had the 6 year wheel and tire protection plan and it saved her huge replacement bills or whatever. It cost $1195.00, but also included the dent removal. Ok, a flat tire from a nail or blowout is just a few hundred bucks to replace. And the chances of destroying a rim are almost zero. And I don't believe for a second it covers everything he was claiming. I am sure they try to find ways to get out of paying. And it was through a third party company. He said I had to agree to take it or leave it right then, but I have until the factory warranty on the vehicle expires to decide to get the extended warranty to 10 years. All warranties are a money maker for them and they would not be giving them out just to be helpful at a loss. Yeah a great deal for them. By the amount of whimpering and the repetitive attempts to sell it, I would say for sure a good part of their pay is based on commission from selling the warranties.

When I purchased my 2015 PRO I declined all of the extras and told the finance guy that I don't usually keep vehicles beyond 3 years anyways. I traded my Ram in on my Tacoma at 3 years. He gave up and it was the easiest vehicle purchase that I every had. I still have the Tacoma and besides oil changes it has never had warranty work or ever broke down. So save your money.... Toyotas tend to be bullet proof.
