    Hi,

I am chatting with my local dealer (Bay Area) about purchasing a 2021 TRD Offroad Tacoma with the LED Headlight Package and either the Technology or Advanced Technology Package. However, they are saying that you can only get the LED Headlight package with the TRD Offroad Premium... Is this correct?

    Thanks for your replies!

That is not correct in the Gulf States region. I doubt it’s a requirement anywhere else. It’s been a standalone option since they came out. Should just be standard.

    Stuff, things, this, an ADS
It depends on what the order for the distributors are. Each region has different distribution

Should be able to get it stand alone otherwise just combine it to the blind spot and etc it’s not much and honestly the blind spot is nice to have.

If you're covered inside Southeast Toyota then it looks like it is an option in the "technology package with options" and TRD off road premium packages (there are two of these Premium packages, one has the birds eye camera for a few hundred more).

It MAY be a regional issue, BUT if you try to build a Taco TRD OffRoad online there are a few ways to get the LED headlights:
    If it's an Access Cab:
    1) Technology Package #1 with options - $1255
    2) Technology Package #2 with options - $1905 (includes Tonneau Cover)
    3) TRD Premium Off-Road Package with options (includes technology package) - $3200
    If it's a Double Cab:
    4) LED Headlights & Fog Lights - $485
    5) Technology Package #1 with options - $1285
    6) Technology Package #2 with options - $1935 (includes Tonneau Cover)
    7) Premium Audio & Navigation Package with options - $2790
    8) Advanced Technology Package with options - $3690 (essentially #7 with "Advanced Technology")
    9) TRD Premium Off-Road Package with options - $4615 (includes #5)
10+) Every higher level TRD 'Premium' Off-Road Package includes LED headlights.

Toyota doesn't make it easy to select item piecemeal - you're stuck buying one of the packages.
The next issue is whether or not the dealer you're talking to has what it takes to get Toyota to make it the way you want it.
Toyota USE Corporate tends to preconfigure Tacomas to suit what THEY feel sells best in a region. It takes almost an act of God to get one made they way YOU want it. Trust me - I've been fighting this battle beginning in June 2020. But at least MY configuration is now sitting in my dealer's shop getting it ready for me to drive home.
    Good luck!

Note that every step up in packages contains a confusing combination of options. Even the dealers have a tough time figuring out what's possible AND if they come close with one in their allotment, it's not easy for them to add or subtract packages.

If you take the 'next to the top' TRD Premium Off-Road package and add what I consider to be the essentials after that you can push the MSRP to $46K easily.
Best option - go to Toyotausa.com and build one online.
Then it becomes a battle involving you, your dealer and Toyota Corporate to get it made.

    I second this.

OR you can just buy aftermarket! I have a 2017 that had all halogens off the lot. I just bought LED bulbs for the HB's/LB/Fogs and all LED directionals. Mine work great and overall about $200.00. If Toyota really is offering an LED package, that's hilarious

    Edit: Missed a sentence

I had to find a dealer willing to do the work to make it happen to get my 2020 configured that way. TRD OR with 6MT, LED head/fog lights, and tech package, but nothing else. Took a while but they made it happen.

Are the 2020+ TRD headlight assemblies a reflective housing or do they have projectors like the 2016-2019?

Welcome to the forum! The LED headlights are an outstanding performance option. They can be added later by purchasing them separately and installing for approx $1300. Certainly would be far more ideal to have them come on the truck though. Note that replacement LEDs in the halogen lights come nowhere close to factory LED performance. Lots of headlight info here, see post#3 for factory LEDs:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-hid-vs-led-vs-halogen-h11-projector-headlights.589465/

They use LED reflectors, which are more efficient and higher performing than LED projectors.

Interesting. So they aren't a typical reflective housing you see on the older vehicles.

What's the LED package consist of if you're already getting LED headlights?

Halogen LED reflectors are more of a half bowl shape to encompass all the light from an omni-directional bulb as much as possible to redirect it forward. LED reflectors are more like sloped scoops, where the LED fires down from above into the sloped reflector to direct the light forward. They use this design as the LED light is directional, and mounting the LED on top allows the use of the largest reflectors for a given lamp size (and larger reflectors are more performant) and using the top mounted LED also reduces direct emitter exposure (glare) vs say mounting it on the bottom.

My 2021 DC LB OR came with LED Headlights as a standalone option. Found it on the dealer's lot that way.

Thanks for all of the replies! Sounds like it is possible for sure, just rare here in Northern Cal... This will be a hard decision as there is one on the lot with TRD OR and Tech that I'm very interested in and they'll sell at invoice, however, really wanted to get the factory LED's as they're much cheaper from the factory. Thoughts on if I should pull the trigger or hold off?

You can get the led headlights for $1485 including the adapter harness. You can sell your stock lights for 350ish. So if the price on that truck is good enough, go for it and just swap the lights yourself.
