Aside from getting a junk yard engine harness, I am seeing if anyone on this board has rewired (oem, or slightly different) an engine harness for these trucks/suvs. The harness is pretty brittle(wire and connector wise) and I had some slight issues with knock sensors, weird splices etc. I have looked around but all I have seen so far is just rewrapping and maybe pinning 1 new plug or soldering on a couple pig tails. Was hoping I could pick someones brain with basic questions about various wire types, connectors etc. Thanks champs.

I myself would look around for someone parting out a Truck.

Your talking Just the Engine Harness or the rest of the harnesses ??

Any idea just what plugs you need they may still be had from Toyota

You do Have The Toyota Electrical Wiring Diagrams for your truck ??

this is a labor of love it is going to take lots of time if you do this from scratch .It is one thing when you build harnesses all week compared to your first one.

I know there has to be a company that sells wire in the colors you need though it might be special order like 5000' per color

quite a few different brand connectors were used over the years

Just the main engine harness, I have found some places online to buy 20' (little bit of markup but beats buying 50 different colored spools of 300').
Have a good amount of newish connectors (aside from reusing the harder to find ones like the igniter) . Have the electric / wiring fsm, was hoping to find someone who has done it as they might have better knowledge of what types of tools and other things helped them along the process.

That is the thing if your not matching the wire colors take lots of notes.

You can also use numbers to match circuits if wire colors change.

2 years down the road your trying to troubleshoot the wire colors make no sense because the colors don`t match.

Tools just to remove the wires from the connectors a good crimping tool to put new terminals sometimes the suppliers of the terminals also sell the tools . The basics a decent wire stripper and cutter Practice your crimps to get the feel

    A decent Multi meter !

When stopping for more then a few hours leave yourself a note just what you were doing .

A quiet place to work with no interruptions get one wire in the wrong place at best it just does not work at worst the harness is now a melted mess

one mistake your pretty much starting all over circuit by circuit

We all have or own tricks you will find your own best of luck
