    Welcome to the forum!

You can save a bunch of money doing your own work. Having a friend who knows how to work on cars is a definite bonus.

Installing a lift is pretty basic. You're just removing and replacing parts. It will take at least a few hours, or probably most of a day if you haven't done it before.

I recommend watching as many tutorials as possible on Youtube, and asking specific questions here, or in the suspension sub-forum. There are tons of smart people here who are always willing to share their knowledge.

    Or...

Do this! These guys have experience with Tacomas, so they know the tricks specific to them.

    ^^^^This!!^^^^

Wranglers are amazing trail toys. There is no denying that. But, my understanding is that they are crummy daily drivers. And, the quality has really slipped since Fiat got involved.

    Haha! So true!

@Devist8 this site will make you go broke if you're not careful! Consider yourself warned! ;)

I am close by in Greendale. If you see the Ass-mobile, wave!

    That's the spirit!

Wise words from a wise ass.

    Er, man. Wise man.

/\ that one. That's where I got my stuff from and they probably have the best customer service in the world. And theyll answer any question even if it's not necessarily about something from them. also their disclaimers at the bottom are excellent and they're active here on Tacoma World! And you can't beat free shipping to the continental US. they also offer many many many different brands and parts and pieces.

I had really good luck with ToyTec, they sent me my Icon lift quickly and had the best pricing I could find for the lift I was looking for.

For some high-end stuff I have found that toytec has good prices. For the middle and low end things I found sometimes there are better prices elsewhere. But toytec seems to be pretty comprehensive with what they carry and they have some great articles on their site.

Thanks! Need to start saving. tl;dr Wanted a Tacoma to take off-road on 2 track logging roads to just explore and have fun. Turned out I bought a used mall crawler due to my lack of knowledge, now suffering the consequences. Nothing has broken yet, but I know too much now about suspension and lifts to know that a 2" leveling kit in front and lift block in back is just going to haunt me later.

Feel free to laugh at me at your own expensive. I know I messed up. :anonymous::rain:

    RIP

blocks and spacers can be removed. And 1500 bucks or so will get you a full OME kit that will net 2 inches of suspension lift and excellent travel and ride characteristics.

Exactly. That's exactly what I want to do. Just don't have much automotive work XP, so when the day comes I'll be posting a mod-day if anyone wants to help.

Oh there will be some mods all right
Don't forget about iron Man off-road either, they give a lot of bang for the buck. There's a thread on here with a lot of 3rd gen and I believe a couple 2nd gen guys. plus I'm running it on my frontier and beating the piss out of it. The foam cell pros are beefy and the coilovers are adjustable.

As a former Fiat owner thems fightin’ words!

The numbers of Wranglers I see on the road says otherwise.

Having said that, they definitely are not as nice as a 4 runner for daily driving.

My 95 YJ was loud even with the hardtop, with the soft top more so. and the suspension was bouncy having leafs all around.

I had no complaints about reliability. Other than fluid changes the only things I did were brakes, tires, and a starter.

It was our only vehicle for years and my son rode in the back seat until he was 10 and I sold it.
Wish I never did honestly. On a hot summer day rolling with the top and doors off was a joy.

I can’t speak to the quality of the new wranglers. I never had any serious issues with my Fiat, and my wife’s Patriot have treated us well so far.

Like many here I do almost all my own maintenance and try to stay on top of things before they become bigger headaches.[/QUOTE]

Agreed. Use the truck how you want and decide what works for you and what doesn't. Let that guide future mods.
I certainly don't remember you having issues on the Pipeline.
