So Toyota is replacing my USB plug. They stated there is a TSB about the part. Should have the vehicle back in my hands tomorrow.

Do you happen to know what the TSB number is?

Just got my truck back and Apple Carplay is working as it should. So the USB was a fix for me.

They did not provide me with the TSB # and it is not on my paperwork

Thanks for checking. I made an appointment for December 15th to have it checked out. Maybe it'll get AA working for me. Fingers crossed!

So after reading all of this I was pretty certain it was my USB cable as well. Turn out it was a little talked about detail.

Download the Toyota app on your phone. With your phone plugged into your Taco, press this button on your app:

This puts CarPlay in you head unit. That’s right, your head unit has the functionality, but it usually doesn’t have the software installed. You have to do the yourself with the Toyota app on you phone.

CarPlay worked for a few months then stopped and I struggled with this for the past couple of months. Tried all the solutions on this string and others. Just figured it out for me, at least. My iPhone Express VPN caused the problems. Turned off the VPN while connected to the Tacoma and it now works perfectly. Hope this is helpful for someone else out there.
