3rd Gen Magnetic Gray Thread

I’m doing the KO2s, I was considering Falkens and Ridge Grapplers as well.

 

Tried out the new wheels/tires/lift. Worked great!

As I was starting my dechroming project, I began to feel a little regret in picking up a MGM Limited. Even if the price was better than right, I don't care for chrome and the Limited has a lot to replace. Nothing seemed to be looking as I had intended, then I loaded up the bike to haul it to storage for the winter and realized that... I must have a subconcious thing for the color as I had the bike painted the first year I had it and that was a decade ago.
With the intial tests of the smoked mirror covers, fog bezels and emblem, and the blacked out other emblems I think it's heading in a direction I can call my own. Excited for the Black Friday purchases to get here and keep this project moving!!!
Now if I can figure out the damn chrome door handles and save some more money for rims and tires, I'll be on the right side of happy about the purchase.

 

Just get some plastic handle covers!

I did the door handles with matte black vinyl, it matches the vinyl on the B pillars between the windows. Remove the door handles from the truck and wrap the entire handle in vinyl and then just cut out the painted parts. The caps are harder than the handle itself because of the contours and the drivers because of the key hole, but for that one just start at the Key hole and then cut it out after.

They end up looking unique but it’s such a small detail that no one ever notices.



Emblems = debadge, MGM is a clean colour and emblems do more harm then good.

Mirror caps - I found an old dude with chrome bumper caps and after demonstrating how easy they were to remove we traded. Old French dudes around here love their chrome.

tail lights = depo TRD pro tail lights. Bought them on eBay one at a time with coupons, they were less than 100$ CAD a light shipped.

headlights = BLHM

grill = 99$ EBay TRD pro

fog bezels = krylon, didn’t last a year, back to chrome now. Eventually replacing OEM bumper with after market unit so I don’t care anymore.

and that’s the cost effective way to de chrome a limited.

 

Just got new rims and tires. Need to get black lugs next.

 

Those black rims look good. Still not sure what color wheels I want to end up with. Black, gunmetal, bronze...

 

Still have some Fall colors around here.
