Did anyone get the bumper 2 bumper coverage... why or why not?

    Have you used it?

    Is it worth it?

Toyota's extended warranty is a good one, IF you shop it and don't just automatically buy from your local finance high pressure draw you pictures guy. Just remember if you buy a 7/100, you are really buying the difference between that and the original warranty, not the whole enchilada.

Is it worth it? Only if you need it. Some folks do. More don't. It's why they sell them, putting money in the bank that there won't be claims. Just like any insurance.

To me, no other warranty is worth it, either aftermarket (too restrictive) or dealer provided (typically even more restrictive)

I thought about the extended warranty but my 2 other Tacomas never had an issue I couldn't repair so I skipped it. I was buying a Tacoma not a Chevy after all.

I haven’t come across a dealership yet, that sells anything that wouldn’t benefit themselves.
What is their benefit for selling you the warranty?

It’s only worth it if you use it and get more out of it than you paid for it.
You should ask the dealership if they recommend the warranty.
If they say, Yes. Ask why?

Surely it’s not because they would sell you a truck that’s likely to have problems BEFORE the warranty coverage ends?

I guess my point is, It’s a gamble.
The odds aren’t in your favor. If they were, the warranty company wouldn’t be offing it to you.

    Read all the fine print.

You know they will say yes.

The why will be 2 choices 98% of the time

    1) I had a friend who didn't and it cost him $$$ to have xxx fixed just 100 miles after the factory warranty ended. Really bad luck.

    2) All modern vehicles are filled with expensive electronics (true) which will cost a fortune to fix when something breaks (true).

What they don't tell you is that's a pretty rare occurrence. If it scares one too much, an older vehicle that's less complicated might be in order.

If the buyer is not a DIYr at all, doesn't have a trusted independent mechanic and is dealer centric for all their service, an extended warranty, a sale before the warranty ends, or a lease might be a more comfortable option.

I guess “peace of mind” is worth something.
To me, it isn’t worth much.

    I’m extreme in both ways.
I either worry about it ALL the time, or NEVER worry about it.

I had an old timer tell me once.
“I don’t give a damn IF it breaks, it’s WHEN it breaks”

As someone else stated in a few words.....

My 2.5 cents only here. You are betting that there will be a failure that would "potentially cost" you more than what the factory warranty covers

It is up to you do make that decision.

Personally, I have only purchased ONE extended warranty and that was NOT through a dealership. Way cheaper and it actually paid off when our MFD on our VW fried a year after warranty.

We got the Extended thru a third party because the Jetta was a mid year/new model and we figured there may be some bugs that had to be worked out.

Saying that...we still own that 2005.5 Jetta and the warranty paid off ONCE. Was it worth it? Probably not but the peace of mind made both my wife and I happy.

With a Tacoma, I feel that it is not necessary. Just my opinion but these things run forever. Ask me how I know? Well if every third world country runs these things every day in the desert and extreme climates why get an extended warranty?

Remember, you can always get a third party just prior to your expiration of the factory warranty...it may cost you then but perhaps the original funds could be put towards something else.

    :)

My Tacoma, no, it should be dependable for the ten years I'll own it, with prob 80K miles in 10 years. Plus the Toyota ones look like they cost 1600 if you are lucky and shop well, on up. This is my fifth Toyota truck, all of them have been bulletproof.
My Mustang GT, yes, bought it, 8 years bumper to bumper Premium from Ford, 995 bucks, includes rental car. Just used it for my seat heater, would have prob cost me 400 in parts to fix myself, if I could have figured out what component in the seat heater system had failed. Receipt from the dealer looks like it was about an 800 fix. And I have a broken mirror servo, that will be covered also for free when I can get the car in.
A Ford is not a Toyota...I like to try and buy reliable vehicles, but sometimes fun overcomes reliability.

Wasn't worth it for me. I bought the extended warranty. Was told it covered everything but the glass. Paint started flaking and was told it wasn't covered. Finally Toyota agreed to fix after several months of phone calls and complaints. When i got it back , i cancelled the warranty and got about 2 grand back.

    Working on it ...
I personally have never purchased the extended warranty. Never needed it either. The dealers I go to no longer even try to push any warrantee, seal coat, undercoating, products on me. Make the deal I signed the papers they hand me the keys.

On the other hand, one of my good buddies seems to always get the extended warranty. They got it on his girlfriends Rav 4 and then he got it when he bought a Kia Sorrento. Rav 4 ended up needing a transmission and the Sorrento a motor. So for him both times it paid off.

Other than those two issues with his vehicles they have been very solid. RAV4 more so. I think Had like 150,000 miles on it and still ran great until somebody rear end them and totaled it.

You can find deals out there, I paid $665 for the Toyota Platinum warranty. I usually keep my truck for 5 years and like to have the extended coverage.

Depends on what you pay and how much you value the coverage whether or not you use it. I have read about people paying 5k for the platinum warranty. That is highway robbery. I was quoted 1360 for a 10yr/100k platinum for my 2021 trd pro. That to me would be worth it. Especially because you can get a refund for what isn't used and you can also transfer the remaining balance to sell it for more. I off road frequently, and feel that hard usage makes things more prone to breakage making the warranty worth it. Thats just me though.

funny you ask i bet someone is or soon will be trying to reach you about the warranty on you car/truck. Better jump on it, I think they only call once and after that you're off their books for good.
