Picked up a 21 Tacoma off road. Started build with a bed rack. King lift and spc uppers should arrive on Tuesday. Plans for build is to make it very reliable and capable off road for hunting trips. Also will be my daily and I’ll be driving it to several different states for hunts. Here are some pics of the rear rack. I still need to add lights and mounting brackets but that will come later.

I forgot to get a pic but I had three wall tents on it up top a few weeks ago. Made it possible for me to take enough gear for 8 people to hunt for 6 days.

Kings came in a few weeks ago for it along with spc uppers and 3 add a leaf from @HeadStrong Off-Road. Super fast shipping and they made the process easy with GREAT prices. Got them installed in an evening. Huge difference in ride and stance. 1AB90871-0E93-4E01-A2A5-3C7FEFAB1DAD.jpg

Thought I was going to leave the stock rims and tires on for a while but that changed quick. Ended up going with 285/70/17 nitto ridge grapplers. Now I need to get a new spare. Trying to decide if I’m going to do same rim and tire to do a 5 tire rotation or just go with a cheep full size spare??? Have taken it off road on some good trails. Definitely need to to get rid of some plastic but only touched cab mount once. Already got cmc plates from @JLee just need to get time to cut it.

Looks good. Wanting to set mine up for those sorts of trips as well. But I’m currently leaning toward a roof rack and a Softopper instead of a bed rack. That could change though.

Thanks! I was thinking about going that route as well and still might some day. Figured I would try this route first for only $200 in metal compared to the $3k plus for the hard camper shell and roof rack. But the camper shell would come in handy a lot. One day I’ll probably suck it up and pay for one.

For $200 you have a great setup! Good decision. I am going with a Softopper in part to save $$$, but I also honestly think I might prefer the way they look. I definitely prefer being able to collapse and remove it in minutes if I want over the semi-permenance of the hard camper shell.

I actually just got back from a hunting trip with my son and having something back there for travel would have made it better.

Ya being able to remove it quick and by yourself makes me really consider the soft top. One would be especially nice for solo overnight trips so I could just curl up in the bed and not have to set up a tent or camp.

Just placed an order for mine. Hoping it will be here and installed before my hunting trip next weekend.

In my personal experience, off roading with a hard shell kind of sucks. I can hear it creaking back there when the truck is bouncing around and flexing out. I feel like it limits how hard I can drive the truck off road

I hadn’t thought about it bouncing and cracking back there. That’s definitely something to consider.

Yeah man i saw you saying you want one so i thought i’d let you know that its not all its cracked up go be. I keep thinking maybe i should’ve gotten a bed rack instead. My shell even rubbed off the paint on my bedside to bare metal in one spot from vibrating on washboard roads

Dang that’s sucks. Might just end up going with the soft one eventually. Or just getting Plano or pelican trunks for the gear that needs to stay dry.
