    Here's a thought for you....
Keep in mind that it's just my opinion and it's worth every penny you paid for it.
Ask yourself and answer honestly, "Could you shoot and kill another person?" Really think about it.
Going to the range and shooting can be great fun. Every one should do it.
Carrying a loaded weapon is not the same thing. Don't think that you are going to "brandish" a pistol and avoid a situation. Don't think that you are going to shoot someone in the leg to stop an attack on your person. Don't think that you're going to shoot it in the air to scare someone away. If you're carrying a loaded gun, that gun should come out for one, and only one reason. To shoot center of mass and kill another human being. If that thought gives you pause at all, you're probably increasing the danger to yourself by carrying.
Don't misunderstand me. I'm a staunch 2A supporter. I believe everyone has the right to arm themselves. I believe an armed society is a polite society. I wish open carry were more common and socially acceptable.
I also think there are probably quite a few people with CCW permits carrying firearms who probably shouldn't be. :notsure:

I still want it for transporting guns to and from the range; In normal day-to-day activities I would not want to be carrying a gun, but if it came to down to me (or a family member or friend) or them, yes I probably could shoot to kill if it meant saving my life or someone else's.

    Working on that
Charlie, bottom line is go with your first instinct. You can’t go wrong with a G19, and while everyone has an opinion I’d suggest a gen 3, but you’re good with any generation.
And as to previous questions, you don’t need an excuse to want a concealed carry permit. Your biggest concern should be to train with whichever weapon you choose.
    Then train some more.

......and read teamhypoxia’s post a few times

County and city yes. There are other factors too. Females get a permit quicker than a male. You can get an expedited permit but you have to have an extremely good reason. With the exception of area around NYC around my area it’s between 3-18 months average. Depending on the county and city you live in.

The best carry gun is the one you actual have with you. It needs to be so comfortable that you forget it's on you. The pistol I most often carry is the Ruger LCP which disappears in my pocket holster. I'm almost never without it unless it's winter or I feel the threat level is elevated then I'll have a glock 19 under my left arm in a shoulder harness or summer carry clipped in my waist band. If I'm traveling to an area that's seen riots, the AR will be in my truck.

Those that say why do you feel the need to carry all the time. PEACE OF MIND.

Random question since this is a Tacoma forum; Does your SR have intermittent wipers or no?

    Charlie,

Let me cut through the noise and say I highly recommend just getting a gen 5 G19 and take a moment to explain why. I'm a competitive shooter, firearms instructor and I've had a fair amount of experience in the military. The reason I push new shooters to just getting a G19 is because it's large enough to shoot decently and small enough to conceal. They are reliable, function well, and retain their value. Finally, due to their popularity there is a tremendous amount of aftermarket parts and gear available for them.

The reason that's important is because you have no way of really knowing what you want. Even after you take a couple of classes it could take anywhere from months to years for you to develop as shooter, build proficiency and really understand what it is you like about particular firearms and build your own criteria for what you want. So even if you decide you don't care for glocks and prefer something else you'll have no problem selling it and getting something else.

Please don't put much thought into the "rent or hold a bunch of guns" to figure out what you like. They are all going to feel awkward at first. What's worse is you might decide on something that has a less than reliable reputation or doesn't have a large array of sights, quality holsters, lights etc that will work.

I wish I'd just done this when I started out. I went through quite a few different pistols trying to figure it all out. Even with classes. It wasn't until I started shooting competitively that I really had the aha moment in shooting and ultimately figured out what I really needed. Now, while I primarily shoot CZs competitively I generally carry a G19 or G43. I don't recommend the 43 as a first gun because it's very hard to shoot well due to its size.

    Good words of advice!
There is absolutely nothing wrong with going with the G19. It is also a great platform to learn how to clean a pistol and strip down. One of the easiest I’ve come across.

I used to work as a quasi locksmith, even the good residential locksets are comical. Schlage were the ones that put up the best fight against our intrusion, but even that was sub 30 seconds

Also, to answer the OPs question, best is so subjective but a glock 19 is a crowd favorite all arounder for a reason. G48 with the shield mags could be a good candidate as well. Basically q G19 slim

That said, I cc a P30SK in the summer and a M9A3 in the winter

Out of the Glock 19, 22, 23, and 42 the 19 is my favorite.

I haven't shot some of the current common guns out there, like the Shields, but between having a friend that was a CATM that also worked at a gun shop (we shot just about everything at the base range), and my family being shooters, I hated Glocks at first. I was very pro-S&W but swayed to Glocks due to their reliability and ease of replacing parts and maintenance. I shot the heck out of a S&W and upon replacing all of the internal parts and it not functioning properly, required some machining with factory parts, that did it in for S&W in my opinion.

I carry the 42 when I'm out for a run or when I want the most compact carry in the Florida summers. I hate carrying a pistol in a bag, especially if I don't have something for a backup on my person. I'd much rather carry a 380 on my person than a larger 9mm in a bag. But with a jacket or baggy top I can appendix carry the 19 with a weaponlight without much of a problem.

I used to love hunting with revolvers... I'd like to get a Glock 20 or 40 with a red dot on it next.
