    Good morning everyone!!

I had two awesome careers - both required a lot of time and were often high-stressed for different reasons. I realized about 4 years ago that I was getting mentally worn out and retiring just felt right. So I told my board that I'd be retiring - 3 years notice. I still miss the Army and leading the college every day, but I'm loving retirement and having the time to spend with Lynn. Life is good.

    Good morning, another fine Sunday!
Since retiring I've been wondering how I ever found the time to go to work!

Same sentiments here about retirement. Blessed with a wonderful wife and son and our investments continue to grow in value.

I started cutting lawns and taking care of rose gardens when I was 12, everyone had rose bushes back then. Started pumping gas after school at 14 for $1.25 and hour + Tips. Never looked back. My time in the military was actually a blessing and I learned a lot of lessons in life at an early age. My entire adult life was spent working on telephones in some capacity, another blessing. My dad always used me as a gopher so to this day I am still handy. Yesterday I taught my son how to hang curtains at my cousins home. Life is good even in these trying times.

With out getting into details, I have been close to death on four occasions. There may be (probably) more I don't know about.
The point is it makes you see every day as precious and a gift so we should all enjoy every day!
I hope this doesn't come off as a ‎Cliché‎. I think this group appreciates this fact more than some of the youngsters.

Good morning and good reminder, 2020 doesn’t seem as bad in comparison to that horrible war ...

We had a family friend, a rancher and machinery salesman in Wyoming - Don Barnes (from near Lusk, Wyo). He is gone nearly 25 years now - but he was there at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th for the "day that shall live in infamy". He was a navy crewman - but not on one of the ships that were so badly damaged or sunk. He spent many months there afterward however, cutting through the wreckage, returning the harbor to use - a zillion hours of manual labor.

Anyway - his method of remembering the attack was to go to the Montgomery Bar on Gillette Ave near the train station in Gillette, Wyoming - and buy all the Kamakazees you could drink, for all who would join him! Quite the gathering as you might imagine............. as the day went along, many would gather there and add funds to the effort - a lot of planes went down.

    hi Danny,
I'm just south of Macon, so not really close to Dalton. I agree there is some nice country around Dalton.
I'm so far out in the woods that we have to pump the sunlight in! ;)

“YESTERDAY, December 7, 1941 a date which will live in infamy the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.”

One of the most famous and well known statements ever spoken in this country and around the world. I fly the flag today to honor both our great country and our great military. God bless America.

I just finished watching what I think is the best documentary ever made - Victory at Sea. Watched it numerous times in my youth but haven’t seen it again for maybe 40 plus years. 28 episodes, took me over a week to watch all the episodes. It really shows the hardships that all Americans suffered during WWII. It makes you proud of this wonderful country and our brave military. If you’ve never seen it or haven’t for a long time , you should watch it. Today is the perfect day to do so. You can find it on YouTube (for free)

Happy Tuesday all and for us retired guys and gals Happy Saturday.

Perhaps folks today that complain need to read more history. Heck, do they even teach that anymore.

I’m a voracious reader and a history buff. I fear the history being taught today is unrecognizable from the history us old people learned 50 or more years ago. I also fear that today’s youth is taught, learns or knows very little history. Winston Churchill said “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” A profound statement. So let’s observe December 7th and give thanks for the blessings bestowed on us by this great country.

It saddens me that apparently the Pearl Harbor attack is no longer mentioned in history classes.

I had an uncle who was there, in the Navy, during the attack. He was aboard two other ships that were sunk later. Another uncle was lost in a submarine later in the war. My dad was a Seabee. My step dad served in Europe. I knew many other folks who served. Their memories are being lost.

Sprig's Churchill quote is probably accurate.

I agree with the "memories are being lost". My dad joined the navy after Pearl Harbor and after boot camp was assigned to help restore some ships at Bremerton (sp?). He served on three different battleships ..... on the NEVADA during the Normandy invasion. He never talked much about it. I can understand.

I only did Vietnam on the carrier Enterprise in 1969. It was dangerous loading bombs on jets on the flight deck all night, but I've always felt those guys in WWII were in a much more dangerous environment.

    I'll stop with that.

    Tex
