phone mount for center vents in 08 Tacoma

Hi, I'm trying to find a decent phone mount for the center vents in my 08 Tacoma. The one I use in my other cars doesn't stay securely in place. I am not interested in dashboard, windshield, cup holder, or left vent mounts. What do you have that works well for you?

Thanks, yeah I would consider this as well. I think it'd be high enough to allow me to stay focused on the road and also avoid being obstructed by the steering wheel.

This is what I use in my 2005 Taco. Have been using it since June of 2019. It has wireless charge capability but my phone case is too thick I guess so it doesn't work unless I take it off but now that I've seen the CD mount option I'm gonna look for more options.

Whoa I didn't know these exist! Definitely gonna look for more options of these. I want one that has a holder on the bottom too for your phone to rest on like the one I have in the link. Thanks for sharing!

 

I'm using it with a Pixel4 in a Otterbox case. Easy one hand in/out as it's spring loaded.

 

I have two of these from different vendors. Both pop out when off-roading unless you remember to tighten the knob every 30 min or so, depending on trail conditions.

Similar issue with vent holders, and on hot days, it will interfere with the AC air. The best solution for me was a windshield mount with a long arm; it rests on the dash and extends down over the CD player. Not the prettiest but it stays in place and has never fallen off the windshield.

 

Ram mount parts and ram x grip, with ProClip mount to the center console . I can have my arm resting on the arm rest and operate the phone . Very ridged and sturdy and all heavy duty . About $60 in parts doesn’t obstruct any controls and passenger (wife) still has room in the pass seat



edit also might I add it isn’t really affected by heat and cold . The company of the mount to the console doesn’t recommend what they call pedestal type mounts being used as the say it will “wear out the mount faster” (which is the type shown here) but I don’t see what might wear out , I guess only time will tell

I switched to this after the vent mount kept overheating my phone.

 

After trying multiple mounts I ended up making my own to fit the CD slot that I have never used. I have been pretty happy with it. I have had an IPad mounted to it and it didn’t budge a bit.

 

I have tried a half dozen random mounts to include vent mounts. All had issues. The vent mounts would not hold the phone at the proper angle--I did save them for whenever I rent a car though.

I went with a glue on X-Grip mount. The glue didn't hold too well in the heat where I used to live, so I epoxied it to the dash--it's going nowhere.

 

I'm not a fan of phones in front of vents. Cold air can cause your smart phone to get water damaged
from condensation. And can over heat in the winter when blowing hot air.

 

I have mine in the cubby. I also have apple CarPlay so it doesn’t need to be in front of me

 

Not likely damaged from cold air. If you're thinking a/c, it's already dehumidified. And the cooler air will extend the life of your battery.
Heat? Yes. Heat is bad for electronics.

 

I also use the wizgear mag mounts. Used vent mounts in the past and always overheated my phone, and also took away the blast of cold air to my face.

I'm curious, do you have any pics or dimensions of the cd slot part?

 

my "new to me" 2012 TRD Sport has one of these and it is stuck on tight!....maybe the dude superglued it??.....any ideas how to remove it without damaging my dash???

 

I'd start with mild heat. Hair dryer on low and wobble/ pry it off. Mine have fallen off on 100+ degree days and hotter than hell in the cab.

 

thanks for the tip and I'll try that!.....the interior is in great shape and I just don't want to mess up the dash doing something stupid!......I just keep my phone in the long "cubby" next to the shifter....it has an otterbox case so the mount won't work anyway.....
