I recently had to replace the OEM battery on my 2019 TRD OR due to corrosion. Now with a new battery for about a month, and it’s showing corrosion already! What could be the cause?

Don’t see why the dealer wouldn’t replace your battery. Being your truck is a year old.

You didn’t clean and neutralize the terminal correctly when you changed the battery, that all. Once battery corrosion sets in on the terminal it’s a royal PITA to neutralize. Get your self some cleaner and get EVERYTHING off with that and small wire brush, then also use baking soda with water, keep cleaning with brush, and keep going until you get no reaction at all. The. When you put it all back, use battery grease or some form of petroleum jelly like vaseline.

Get an agm battery. I had a similar problem in which acid kept leaking out of the battery and replaced the factory battery with a sealed agm battery. Problem solved.

Clean the corrosion off with a wire brush and coat it in dielectric grease. Put some on your trailer wiring sockets while you're at it. Future you will thank you.

50/50 water and baking soda to clean, dielectric grease to protect.

Replace the terminal and put an AGM battery in, and you will be GTG.

The AAA guy spent a solid 20 minutes cleaning the terminals. I was talking to him the whole time while he did it.

Your previous battery wasn’t the problem. Like others posters mentioned, get an AGM battery. You can order one through Costco for $160, or Battery’s Plus probably has them in stock for $200. And clean the terminals before putting them on the new posts, look at this picture you likely didn’t do that, and you clearly didn’t lubricate them.

When you remove the battery and tray, pressure wash that engine bay. If the battery tie down has corrosion on it clean it off and rattle can a clean coat of paint to it, let dry an replace.

Prob the same thing that happened to me. For 6 months my battery kept leaking from the top caps and eventually reached the terminals. I cleaned them off and watched it for months. It happened again and got the battery and alternator checked out. As expected, nothing wrong with a one year old truck at that time and Toyota replaced battery under warranty. Then the new battery leaked again. So I got rid of the terrible Toyota battery and bought a optima yellow top battery group 35.

Johnson Controls no longer makes batteries. (Interstate, for example) All wet lead acid battery will corrode. Clean and protect from the atmosphere.

he may have done, but that doesn’t mean he got it all off and more importantly neutralized it. There are tones of nooks and crannies to clean in the connectors Toyota use. Those battery foam pads also help keeping things clean. Once that shit sets in it’s a nightmare to stop, and can take months to show itself again.

So is my battery leaking when I take it off-road?

Which in my case is everyday.
