Well now you have me second guessing myself. It does appear both Crawl Control and ATRAC have the same booster. Could there be different behavior in the brakes between ATRAC and CC that would make the manuals feel like the dive more?

Right you are simply misunderstanding those Threads, its not a Manual Automatic difference. The difference is the Pro and Off Road have the Electric Booster and all the other Tacoma Models have a Traditional Style Vacuum Booster thus why you feel a difference in your Dads Sport with Vacuum Booster. It is correct that the ATRAC is a simpler basic system and as mentioned before the Crawl Control is like a more advanced automatic version of it, but both the ATRAC and CC systems operate by the same Electric Brake Booster that they both share.

I had a 2015 Off Road with that same Booster that was way more touchy than my 2017, think they have been fine tuning them over the years

The brake dive is more noticeable in manual off roads than in auto off roads. I agree. My theory is that the dive is more noticeable because the manual trucks are in true neutral more often than the auto trucks are. Think of applying the brakes in gear with engine braking vs applying the brakes in neutral. This makes the dive more noticeable because the brakes are touchy/strong.

I know it's different but I usually brake while downshifting. Still, you do make a good point that a torque converter might lessen the "touchiness" a bit.

    Dobinsons 2" lift, 33s....other stuff
Nose dive is "normal" for Off-Roads and PROs. part of the reason why I want to upgrade to an OME or Toytec lift.

The brakes are very touchy and a little weird to get used to, I'm still not used to mine. I think it probably has to do with the electronic brake booster....I'd rather have good old vacuum or hydroboost but that's just me.

Yes the E-brake is pretty much all or nothing; this is inherent of how drum brakes work. This is also why vehicles without power brakes are better off with drums rather than disk brakes and why a lot of vehicles with 4 wheel disk use an in-hat drum parking/E- brake.

Yes the clutch feel is pretty poopy in these, I haven't done the ADM yet but I've heard it helps a lot with clutch feel.
My clutch pedal is also SUPER slow to return when it's colder than 30° F outside, Toyota (along with a lot of people on this forum) will tell you "this is normal for vehicles with manual transmissions"...Though in the 5 manual vehicles I've owned this is the only one with this problem.

These trucks have a lot of "normal" weird stupid things to get used to, but I guess most vehicles do. They're still fun little trucks though!
