Plenty of times on construction sites. Shoot it full of fix a flat and then go to a tire shop and get it patched.

I'm sure this was already covered but the Kevlar reinforcement is in the sidewall.

I ran LT's for years without an issues. Got a smokin deal on a set of P rated tires and was constantly getting nails and screws in my tires. Back to LT for me!

A few layers of extra rubber can be the difference between a puncture and not. Other than that, Es really don't have anything more to ward off an object with a point than standard load tires. They patch just the same. The only difference is if you get a truck tire with a steel casing, you can then patch sidewall punctures. All steels ride like garbage on a light truck.

Uh, no. You are wrong. That is probably why you should have read this thread. Please read post #58.

I put six plugs in a single cut once. It got me back to civilization but a single plug will outlast the tire.

I read post #58 which made no reference to Kevlar. Are you replying to the correct comment? If not I do not see where Kevlar is introduced other than the sidewall per the following excerpts from Goodyear.
    • Rugged strength provided by a layer of DuPont™ Kevlar®
    • Helps prevent cuts in the sidewall with its Durawall™ Technology

I agree, especially if it's a new tire. Although plug technology is better than it used to be, I still think the patch is a superior fix.

My mistake it was post 56. As I mentioned it is marketing. They are not marketing Kevlar as Durawall. You are drawing that conclusion which again is a marketing trap. Kevlar is DuPont brand of aramid which has been used for years. Does it provide strength? Yes so does nylon, ployester, rayon, steel, etc. That is the reason tires are not made simply of vulcanized natural rubber.

No I actually decided to go to the dealership. I thought it was covered under the Toyota care, but apparently not. In retrospect I wished I went to discount tire. probably would have been faster.

Spend less than $10 on a nice T handle plug kit. It is worth it to just not wait for a puncture repair or hear some story about how the puncture us just outside the allowable area or tread wear.

The official word is that the old gas station plug is a temporary fix. I can see the rationale because it doesn't create an adhesive bond that patching from the inside does nor does it allow you to see the inside of the tire that could be destroyed from running low on air. I have seen tires that looked normal on the outside, but when you dismounted it that the inner liner is literally a pile of dust inside the tire. Of course if it is your tire, you know how you treat it and if you found a screw in the tread and it was still holding air when you pulled it out and quickly put a plug in that you are as good as new.

The concern with the plug is that there is nothing to hold it in place. You push it in and it is held in place by force. I understand the theory, but I can tell you that I have never heard of one backing out. I am sure it could happen, but I would imagine that you can probably attribute it to installation error.

Goodyear is one of the best. They spend double on advertising per tire than their closest competitor. Michelin is one of the lowest. They focus on quality. Price wise there are usually close and it always shocks me that people buy them just because of things like Kevlar.

The shit thing is I didn't notice I had a screw in my tire for almost 24 hours. By the time I found out the tire was practically flat.
