i did see a young naked woman on Hwy 175 on the way in to the lake. she was only wearing knee high tube socks and her shoes. she was trying to go..

i pulled into the space, see her and i peeled off to try to maintain her honor. that's why i was skunked..i burned thru my luck all in one go. (that's what my friend said)

"I got in last night, and some guys wanted to take me to a topless bar. I didn't want to go, but I ended up going, cause you guys will back me up on this, you've seen one woman nekid... you wanna see the rest of them nekid! It can be an old biker chick, you know, they're gonna hang down to here. 'Wanna see me nekid?' Yeah, I do! All right, roll 'em back up now! I've seen enough."

When I lived in Texas, there was a group that would go out for sleigh rides.

I want to say most of the kayaks in our group of 100s of kayakers run the outback.

Catch them in pods? You guys in Cali not worry about the great whites riding around on a seal decoy?

I guess growing up swimming with Great Whites and knowing stingrays and jellyfish are a few greater threat removes the fear.

New to the site. Kayak fishing is why I now own a Tacoma.
I love this Sheerwater. I was shopping for a Hobie at the time and saw they were coming out with these. They were still a season away and I didn't want to wai, so I bought a Compass. I love the higher seat and the tackle storage. A very well designed kayak. I have not tried one yet, but a fellow club member loves his. Hobie's are great too. I've had 2 Mirage Outbacks over the years, and now have a 2019 Hobie Compass. I went with the Compass, as it is lighter than the outback and the PA, and I'm getting older. I fish the rivers around the Charleston area for sea trout and redfish, but I love bass fishing too!

sweet. yea. i have the Compass as well. it is fast and maneuverable. easy to put in the bed of the truck. i got out in small whitecap turbulent waters and i was not afraid..it felt stable as i slowkicked for the boat launch.

i do have some Compass Gripes tho. i hate the seat. its comfy, but stuffing a small tackle box underneath is impossible. that plastic crossbar needs to be 0.5" higher. it is just low enough that standing up takes considerable effort. effort that can unsettle the boat and toss my decrepit ass overboard. (hey, it could happen) if i could find a 3D printing friend, i am gonna make seat risers.

that rear handle is a joke. my boat will tip to one side or another if i pick it up from the rear rope handle. i have to cup a hand underneath so i dont empty my boat of gear at the boat ramp. and my steering is on the loose side. and that cup holder..hahhaha..perfect for a gatorade bottle i suppose. any other cup/bottle, it tips out.

all in all, great boat. not without something to b about, but i do like it alot. the lightweight is a life saver. i store it upside down on sawhorses since it is so easy to flip.

Welcome, I'd considered the Compass but ended up with a 2020 Outback. The added features are worth the weight penalty, but easy to say when I'm 35 right

zero doubt. i should have gone with the Outback. if anything for the much improved rear handle. plus i think in the Ocean, the extra 9" would be nice towards stability.

I hate the low seat on the compass. I even tried these as a solution. https://www.mariner-sails.com/compass-seat-riser.html
A lot of money for 4 crude pieces of plastic. They gave me enough height to slide a tackle box under, but still on the low side. I use a leash to pull myself up, to go from sitting to standing, but getting back down is an ugly sight, as I usually crash land back into the seat. The back handle has also caused me grief with tipping while getting the cart under. Big fail by Hobie. The Outback wins with the rear handle they added a couple years back.
The cup holder was a simple $4 solution. Bought a simple cup holder insert and velcroed it into the cup hole. Never comes out. It is in one of the pics at the nose of the fish.
I bought the ENGEL cooler with rod holders attached. It fits perfect behind the seat of the compass and I simply secure it with the bungees, in seconds, on and off. I currently trailer the Compass behind my 4Runner, but when I get my hitch extender for the Taco I will sell the trailer, and be more nimble. I use a C-Tug cart, as I do not trust the scupper carts. Prone to damaging the yak that way. I just fished Saturday and caught 7 trout
and missed a few more. There more kayaks out fishing than I'd ever seen, everybody landing sea trout.

You nailed the review. Cup holder? Link?
I use the Hobie scupper wheels. I went back and forth and apparently our 2019 have the reinforced scupper holes that mitigate the failure points. It’s the black sleeve inside. I’m holding Hobie to it. I lowered my kayak down a sketch hill and it survived.

and thanks for the leash tip. Smart. Real smart. I added ca seat cushion yesterday. I bought it from Costco. It gives me 2 inches of lift. Haha.

This might not be the exact cup holder insert, but would likely work. Just check dimensions. The industrial strength velcro holds it no problem.
