Probably not but god forbid a PhD admit that they don't know something.
That's just it - I think they're flying by the seat of their pants not knowing what they need.
I turned these plans around in a total of about 4 hours and my labor is free. Guess that explains why they aren't good enough.
    It's 51 right now! Don't ask what it'll be in a month or 2, though... :p
Sounds like they either don't really want the work done or they want you to give them a number only for the scope to change so they can claim that the sight unseen ESTIMATE was actually a QUOTE.

Next time he asks, the answer is $1,000,000 and a zero gets added each additional time he asks. Worst case, you lose an annoying customer. Best case, you make a pant load!

If you don't mind telling, what's the name of the company you work for?

I work in the electric shop at U Maine at Orono. Every time I ask one of our project managers (engineers) for a print, I get the same answer, "just make it up to code". I couldn't imagine running a business like that, but University bureaucracy is something else.

When I've drawn plans up, it's usually the basics like demo these walls, build new ones here, doors here, etc. For the cabinetry and power, that's usually up to those guys to do in the field, so you'd be saying the same thing if you were here.

On some of our more... interestingly shaped rooms, I have laid out lights for the electricians as it's obviously a lot faster for me to do it in CAD than it is for them to do it in the room.

ha I see how it is lol. It was a bit of a culture shock coming from construction where everything has a section drawing and a schedule, but I haven’t had to work outside in the winter for 7 years so I guess the trade off was worth it.

I dont, its Technical Glass Products. I know, they got really creative.

Here's our catalog, the website seems like it could be updated though. I haven't looked at it in years and it looks the same.

I worked for an electrical engineer before this doing lighting, power and systems plans for banks, schools, retail, etc. Everything was called out and diagrammed or it was the owner's ass on the line. Now, since we're all under the same parent department, it's a lot more informal.
Bad azz indeed! Looks awesome, Maner!

Thought about this just now because lastnight my wife and I were putting bunk beds together for our kids. Our son is 8 and I said to her “can you believe he only has 10 years until he and I move out into the camper?”.

My wife moved out at 17 with no help from her parents. I stayed at my parents way too long, it’s one of the reasons I have so much “stuff”.

She tells me our kids will be out at 18. I tell her they will be out when they get ready

My dad told me I was gone when I turned 18. I moved out when I got married at 21. :p

I've told my kids (jokingly) they're getting kicked out when they turn 18 but they know deep down I'm a softy and will let them stay. When they can't be on my insurance any more (24 or 26?), they better have a decent job and be gone because I'm selling the house and moving to Maui. :D

My wife was about the same as yours - toxic environment that she couldn't get out of fast enough and had no support system so she ended up having to move back in with them. That's when she went back for her RN so she wouldn't have to depend on anyone else to afford the necessities. She hasn't looked back since and I'm just her supporter along for the ride.
