Retractable/Roll Top Tonneau covers

I am getting ready to spend some money on a retractable cover and want to hear from rolling cover users about their experience. I had a pace edwards on my second pickup more than 10 years ago. At the time, it was the only rolling cover available.

What brand/model do you have and what do you like/dislike about it?

 

I want to know this as well.

I am leaning towards the American Rolling Cover.

You are in my neck of the woods. I live in the Cypress area as well.

 

I have an Access Limited Cover for my short bed.

In my opinion the thing is awesome. Installation is easy and fitment is great.

You can open the tailgate no problem with the cover closed and the cover can only be opened with the tailgate open so if you have a lock on your tailgate its fairly secure (besides someone cutting it open).

Keeps rain/snow out and looks great too. Another great feature is you can still use the deck rail system.

^ Ditto. I have the Access cover as well, but mine is of the Lorado variety.

I preferred the low profile look of the Lorado, compared to the Limited or Lite Rider. The Lorado lets you still use the deck rail system, but you will need to trim down the tightening knobs of the deck rail tie downs. There's a thread with a picture on how to do it somewhere.

It's a nice product and does what I need. My bed stays dry so I can even put luggage back there for a road trip and not worry about it getting wet. Highly recommended.

 

little food for thought.....

i had a soft cover on my truck for about a year, and even though i didnt have anything under it most of the time it got cut into twice. i would recomend a rolling hard cover or folding hard cover. these are not cheap to replace the vinyl. sometimes covers give off the look that you have something of value under it.

 

Dors anyone know if the retractable covers ever freeze in cold weather and get stuck? I like the versatilty, but I am worried I will have problems in the winter.

 

I do not recall having any problems when it was icy/snowy (in Maryland) with my Pace Edwards.

 

No problems here during the winters here in Chicago area with my Revolution cover. I just opened it last night with temps about 15F and no trouble at all. I realize someone could just cut it to get access, but the convenience to roll it up at any time to haul stuff is why I went with it.

Anyone know anything about the BAK bakflip g2 cover for a gen1? Its one of those segmented fold up ones (like on a chevy avalanche).

I'm with you man.... I live in the land of snow and ice.... Tonneau cover is great.....I don't know if there are others, cuz this one is what i done got, eh!..... I've had 4' of snow and ice on her...no sweat..! Had it for 4 years... still good as new...

Access Limited Edition on mine. I've had a foot of snow and ice on it and baked it under 110ºF sun... no stretching, flapping, cracking, etc. It's a great cover.

Since the mounting rails for the cover require inserting some spacers behind the bed rails I was originally concerned about being able to use my bed cargo divider. No worries... I cut 1" off each end, flipped the divider mounts over and it works great. I love being able to us a roll-up cover, bed rail tie downs and a sliding cargo divider all at the same time. I can carry all kinds of big/small, heavy/light stuff all at the same time and never have to worry about it falling over, plus I can cover up all or part of it at the same time.
